Attagirl Tracey!

I was looking for Stewart. I should have known her employers might have got the spelling wrong

So, a servant in the house of her future husband - how romantic is that :D

Thank you very much Mary and Tracey!

I managed to have a look at the census records, unfortunately Oliver's father died before the 1851 census so it will be difficult to find the German connection wherever it is!

I'll have to work out how Helen ended up in London and Kent now!

At last the mystery of Oliver's middlename is solved :!:

Thanks again,

Maxie.

Hi Maxie,
Since Oliver's father (Wm C) was supposed to have been born in the county (Middlesex) in 1841, the German connection was at least back to his father. The IGI has William Charles Hesse marrying Louisa Dickerson Martin 11 OCT 1834 at Saint Mary At Hill, London, London, England

Also his birth:

WILLIAM CHARLES HESSE
Birth: 02 APR 1805
Christening: 28 APR 1805 Saint George In The East, Stepney, London, England
Father: JOHN GABRIEL HESSE
Mother: SARAH ANN

All the best,
Sarah

John Gabriel Hesse married Sarah Ann Price in Southwark in 1791

Wee bit more, just for interest...

In 1871 Census Louisa Dickenson Hesse (Oliver Charles Hesse's mother) was living with her two unmarried sisters-in-law,
Caroline M Hesse aged 73,
Sarah A Hesse aged 78

and married sister-in-law Susannah Elizabeth Coates aged 76, widow of Samuel Coates (they were married in 1841 St George in The East, London ).

In 1881 Census Louisa was a Lodger/Ladies Nurse living in the household of John Wiseman.
