Re: Prain, Kirriemuir
I am the legitimate daughter of Andrew Prain of Prain brothers Blairgowrie My uncles were Stanley and Frank and aunts Nan and Norah
Certainly the correct family as my grandfather was Alexander registered as a butcher who originally worked for Vogel in Cupar Fife and then bought the slaughter house in Blairgowrie moving the family to live in Bonvil (named after Cupar) There was one brother who died aged 8 Alexander then My father Andrew born 1906 in Cupar I hold his birth death and marriage certificates showing Agnes Berry as my grand mother.. I do not think Andrew was the father of the illigitimate son as he was never engaged before marrying my mother It is of course very possible My mothers engagement ring shows 1937 the wedding 1939 I think Stanley was engaged to lady a hairdresser in Blairgowrie who emigrated to cCanada after telling Stanley the expected child was not his My aunt Nan who told me this semed to think the Prain family paid herOff!!! I believe he took years to recover before marrying in Perth My aunt Nan now deceased told me this but also appeared to think that her father Alexander probably had an illigitimate childin Coupar Angus .
I have the brass nameplate for Prain Bros BlairgowrieThe firm originally ran agarage taxi hualage firm The haulage was nationalised after the war and the firm the became a garage Andrew did sales Stanley was indeed a top class mechanic and certainly held an aero licence flying fron scone. Frank was gifted electrically The firm also owned the cinema in Coupar Angus and later two cinemas in Dundee My father Andrew had the dubious honour of bringing Bingo to Dundee Andrew died in 1965 and Stanley assumed control of the firm turning the bingo to casinos He continued to employ Frank for a short time as a petrol pump attendantbefore selling the garage
I hold thedeads ofassociation with Andrew as main shareholder The whole concept was started by grandfather Alexander(sandy) to ensure his family would be in employment asAndrew Frank and Norah were albino and because of visual difficulties received only basic education Nan and Stanley had red hair and normal vision
I have photos of Alexander Andrew Nan Frank Stan and NorahI was only told of this site today and the posts are dated years ago .
