Hi Sarah
I have been thinking about your suggestion that they came to Australia, 1881 happens to be the year that young James got married. I wonder what chance that they travelled out for the wedding? If Alexander didn't return then his death should be registered, have had a look at the Vic indexes online but nothing showing, might be easier if I knew his parents names., I shall sit down and go through the indexes that Dad has on CD and see what's there and thinking on that, I think i'll start looking again at shipping - see if I can find them.
Thanks again for all of your help and ideas!

Sunnyhall can be clearly seen just north of Lundie on this map - http://geo.nls.uk/os25inch/KazG wrote:
Have done a google search on Sunnyhall with not much success, can anyone tell me what/where it was. Have had a look at Google Earth for 212 Perth Road Dundee and it is currently a Costume Shop.
Insert Angus in the county box and Lundie in the Parish then click on go.
Regards,
Annette

Hi Annette
Young James Married: Mary Jane Ritchie in Berwick Victoria on 18th March 1880 for some unknown reason I had it stuck in my head as 81! Just went and checked. (I think I have been looking at too many dates recently! )
I'm trying to work it forward and see what I can turn up with the others, anxious to find out if it was just James who came out here. Lots of work ahead of me =D>
Interesting looking at Alexanders Occupations change through the years, from Ag Lab, to Fireman (am assuming on the Railway here as I have not yet investigated this one) to Basket Weaver.
All my life I have wanted to visit Scotland - now am more determined than ever!
Thanks again!

Re: Robertson Family Brick Wall
Hello Kaz,
There’s an article in The Argus (Melbourne), Saturday, 3 July 1915, that hopefully will put the War Pension query to rest. http://newspapers.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/ar ... %22+parent
WAR PENSIONS.
POSITION OF PARENTS.
It was explained yesterday by the assistant commissioner of war pensions (Mr J. R. Collins) that a good deal of misconception appeared to exist as to the position of parents of soldiers killed in the war. Many, he said, seemed to think that parents were not entitled to pensions. That was not correct. Both the mother and father of a deceased soldier, if they were dependent upon his earnings, were entitled to pensions, and in the case of a private these might in each case amount to £1 per week, or £2 for both together. In each such case the amounts would be assessed according to circumstances. Pensions were also payable to parents who, whilst they might not be dependent on the earnings of a soldier at the time of his death, might at any time within five years become so.
Hope that helps,
Alan
