Hi all,
Glad we're all on the same page now!
Nicole, since you have Ancestry.com, check the immigration and passenger records. I was looking at them earlier and their are a number of trips over for John Fulton's. Of course, that isn't a rare name which makes the search more complicated, but several of them were for crew members. I wonder if John wasn't working on the passenger ships traveling between Scotland and the USA. I noticed that on Helen's death cert. he was listed as a "Ship's (something) helper". I couldn't quite read the middle word.
Helen died in August of 1930 and he didn't marry Lillian until November so legally he wasn't tied to her any longer. However, if he left a child or more behind then I can imagine Helen's family wouldn't have been happy about the situation! I don't know how the laws would work, but they may have been after him for child support. Also, there may only have been the one child, born in 1920 with the family names for the middle names. After I looked at the 1930 census, it occured to me that the second child I saw on SP was probably Neil's son instead of John's.
Don't hesitate to ask more questions!
Carol
