From the above comment do I now understand correctly that ALL times are quoted in the receiver's time settings.

I had previously assumed they were recorded in the poster's time zone settings.

Re: How would i get this info?
i have been studying the picture of alexander during his war years i dont no what year or where it was taken though. this is a picture i found on google of someone that has the same stuff on as alexander, the top half is the exact same as alexander as is the cane but the bottom half is different, the kilt is very different as the kilt alexander has on is a tartan design and he has a sporn one (little bag infront of kilt) and he has spats covering his shoes. there is a little badge on the sporn that looks like two leaved branches coming down and then join up at the bottom and makes it look like a half circle and in the middle it looks like an X and behind the X it looks like a little figure.
dont no if any of this info helps to find what 'group' he was in (battalion, division, brigade) the royal highlanders incase each 'group' were knowen for what ever badge they wore or even it will help tell what year it was taken, i am presuming 1916 as he enlisted then and was in thr royal highlanders as Tracey has showen us in her previous post.

Hello Gary,
Someone familiar with the Ancestry interface will be able to guide you to the remainder of the 12 pages Andrew mentioned. Make sure that the regimental number/s on the medal card matches those on the service record.
The medal card has two separate regiments, Royal Highlanders 267951 Private and Machine Gun Corps 141190 Private, probably to do with the 1916 change of regiments on the service record.
If you can post a copy of your photograph somewhere like photobucket someone may have a clue as to the uniform. The bottom half of a traditional ceremonial uniform may look completely different to one normally worn in a more realistic situation. http://www.flickr.com/photos/mando_gal/4090392555/
Here’s some info about the Machine Gun Corps including a picture of the cap badge http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Machine_Gun_Corps
Here’s a selection of British Army cap badges, including The Royal Highlanders (The Black Watch) http://www.angelfire.com/mi2/angela764/ ... adges.html
The little figure behind the cross (St. Andrew?) seems to be a feature of the badge of several Scottish Regiments. http://www.agooden.org/badges/images/_DSC7756.jpg
Speaking of St Andrews Cross, do you have these in Scotland? http://api.ning.com/files/pRBxjAhsbtyfB ... spider.JPG
All the best,
Alan

Hi Alan,
Yes, the times you see on the forum are in the timezone that you set up in your profile.
I see Thu Jun 02, 2011 3:35 am for the one that you refer to (2.51am for the one the following morning). If you change your timezone in your profile, then all of the time stamps that you see on the forum will change with that.
All the best,
AndrewP (6.42 am)

Re: How would i get this info?
Great photo Gary,
I don’t know much about cap badges, the only one I’m good at is the Royal Artillery.
My guess is that he’s a Cameron Highlander. http://www.google.com.au/search?hl=en&b ... =&aql=&oq=
Have you seen the whole of the service record, does it exactly match the medal record, and apart from the name being similar, are you satisfied it is for your ancestor.
There are some fantastic pictures on this website. Have a look at bits and pieces of the uniforms, design of the sporran, how the tartan shows up in B&W, the design of belts worn, the variety of headgear, the number of buttons on the jacket etc http://www.staffshomeguard.co.uk/L6-2Re ... rracks.htm
There may be more detail of his uniform that could narrow it down a bit more but if you don’t get a result here you may have to try a more specialised forum such as this one http://1914-1918.invisionzone.com/forums/index.php
All the best,
Alan

Re: How would i get this info?
Thanks Alan,
i cant view the pictures cause i need to sign up but the pictures on google resemble the uniform alexander is wearing and the cameron badge looks really like the one he has on his kilt, i think he was part of the cameron highlanders.
Also my other great grandfather william devine fought in the argyll and sutherland highlanders and he had to enlist in stirling castle. he also fought in the battle of the somme and was transfered before or after the somme and he was later transported to ireland because he his stomach was impaled by shrapnel. dont no why ireland though. i have a picture of him in his hospital bed sitting up. can someon try find him for me.
only 9 cameron highlander battalions fought during the war 1,2,4,5,6,7,8,9,11 so alexander was in one of them then.
