Many thanks for finding the info regarding James ! I had another go on SP using surname options but didn't find him, although I did in the 1881 census. I'll visit Paisley library, to find out more about him in the Poorhouse. It's sad to think he ended his days there, rather than live with one of his children.

This is a classic misread by the indexer, with the "Sh" being read as "Sn". On looking at the original one can see how the "h" might be taken as "n" especially at the end of a long hard day of indexing.
I believe that the fuzzy matching variant on SP is in part at least based on the NameX search algorithm developed by ScotsOrigins and others.
