Pete
Thanks so much for this. Had me in tears again!
Had a (50th eek!) birthday party on Saturday night, and my husband had my birthday cake piped into the room. No mean feat to find a piper in Cardiff! Needless to say, had to retire to the ladies to put my face back on!
Have just seen the last of the Scottish relatives off on the trains and planes this morning, so another wee blast of home was just great.
Cheers
a suddenly homesick Ellen.

Thanks Audrey - strange you should reply, as I was just browsing through my messages, and realise I might have an update on the Sommerville stuff which might give more chance of a connection.
I'll have to look out all my stuff for the detail, but did your Somervilles have any connection with a printers or bookbinders company in Glasgow, Sommerville & Aitken (mid 1800's).
If so, we might have a connection after all. Will do some work on this today and get back to you.
Pete - sorry for highjacking your thread!
Regards
Ellen.

As well as Andy, do you remember the Alexander Brothers - Tom and Jack?
I remember them well. "Nodody's Child". Not a dry eye in the house.
I didn't realise until this weekend that "Nobody's Child" had been recorded by the Travelling Wilburys. Who would have thought all these years ago that Bob Dylan would be singing the same song!

Hello Pete,
I also remember growing up with Andy,Jimmy and the Tartin Lads.In Aug jack and Tom were playing here in Dartmouth (the one in Nova Scotia) the night before I left for my wee holiday in Scotland.turns out we were taking the same flight from Halifax (again in Nova Scotia) to Manchester in the morning.I met up with them at the baggage claim and they were wonderful company. They have just recently been given an award for all their years as entertainers. This will be their 50th.Do you think its the Scottish tunes that keep them looking so good and full of energy?

Now you have started me reminiscing can any one remember the guy on New Year tv who used to sing a song with the words 'alang came a boy wi' a bow in an arri, alang came boy wi' a bow in an arri, alang came boy wi' a bow in an arri, ind sayed he wid shoot the wee cock sparri' (The orginal Gleski accent was sung by me in broad Fife when I was wee so may need translated back) My sister and me due to onset of old age have forgotten all almost all the words and I am desperate to find where I can get a copy or the words to impress (or otherwise as I am almost tone deaf ) at the New Year.
