Hi David,
But if son Thomas just copied his mother's parents from her MC, then they would be the same on her DC?
Or am i getting confused - again!

Hi David,
I'd only mentioned the possibility because of some DCs i have with (wrong) parent details which could only have been copied from the deceased's MC.
The MC & DC being near identical in what both said about the parents, but through other sources found that the parents on the MC were definitely wrong.

Grace McCredie.
I haven't got much further after all your help. Janet married in 1870 age 22.Husband James Stewart.
Witnesses were Fanny McCredie and Jane Gillies.
Parents John McCredie and Margaret Ferguson
The only other thing which makes me think somehow or other that Grace belongs to this family is John McCready on her M.C and D.C is described as Joiner, Journeyman the same as the John McCready who is the husband of Margaret Ferguson.
I'll keep searching.
Now another query. On John McCready's D. C. it says parents unknown.
SO what do I do now?

Grace, married Samuel Reid who was born in Ireland, what are the chances that her parents were Irish?
They were married in the Independent Church in Glasgow.
I haven't heard of that one has anyone else.

There wasn't an application for Margaret indexed at The Mitchell.nelmit wrote:My new book is christened already.DavidWW wrote:Wini

Soooooo............. let's see what info 1851 provides![]()
Unless, unless, - a possible chink of light, - Margaret McCREADIE MS FERGUSON died in the Poorhouse in Motherwell in 1883, so if there's an extant inspector's report on her application for admission, that may throw some light on the situation.

1851 census John McCreddie
Hi Wini,
Just to say i've added the 1851 census details - the surname was actually McCREDDIE, not McReddie.

Nelmit, Jack & David.
The 1851 Census solved the problem
In both the 1861 and 1851 Census the name is McCreddie.
Grace is there as a two year old in 1851 and twelve in 1861.
Her mother was definitely Margaret Ferguson so where she got Jane Scott from is a mystery.
Thanks again for your help.
When is the 1841 coming on line???? ONLY JOKING
