James Leys (0000-0000) AT Boston, USA in 1855 - Updated.....

I think it could well be the James Leys I am looking for because in The Canadian Biographical Dictionary of Ontario - a site I found this morning by a complete fluke - there was the following article on George his son :

George Leys.....learned his father's trade, that of a tailor in the old country etc......

Hi Ysabeau,

I have Leys connections in Crathie - married into my Mitchell line - not far at all from Glenmuick. I don't know if you are interested in them there or if you are just interested in the US connection. If Scotland interests you go to www.geocities.com/girnocgordons/Leys - it contains a lot of information about the Leys family from LogieColdstone and it mentions my Crathie lot too - Chapter 9! Maybe it can help you. If you are connected get back to me as I have some info on the family around Crathie in the 19th and early 20th century - not enough though, so if you're connected, Id be delighted!

Year: 1860; Census Place: Boston Ward 7, Suffolk, Massachusetts; Roll: M653_522; Page: 363; Image: 364.
Same persons as the 1850 but just add 10 years to age. James is a tailor.

Year: 1870; Census Place: Cambridge Ward 4, Middlesex, Massachusetts; Roll: M593_624; Page: 639; Image: 342.

James age 63, occupation clothing cutter
Jane, age 44

He is alive in 1880 in the same area. check www.familysearch.org for census.

It's in my Favourites and so it comes up every time for me but I tried to type it in to the address bar just now and it wouldn't work for me either! Try going to http://www.geocities.com/girnocgordons
Then you'll see on the left hand side an option for "The Leys Family" Once there, there are 10 or more options - Chapter 9 mention some of 'my' lot but there are scores of others there too.
