Lachlin McQuarrie 22nd March 1840 parents John McQuarrie and Mary Alexander Girthon 866/00/0002 Frame 212 I haven't seen this entry so it might be worth a look, as it may give John's place of birth.
Lachlin married Rosanne ?? (do date) she died 4th March 1869 parish of Girthon, widow of Lachlin McQuarrie Cotton Spinner. They had one child I know of Rebecca who married William McNeil (no date) Rebecca died 2nd May 1877 parents named as Lachlin McQuarrie and Roseanne ms Durnoch signed by William McNeil son.
My McQuarrie Line is from Archibald & Rachel wtih child

The archibald McQuarrie & Ann Keiller orgignated from Auchtergaven, Stanley perthshire, and there was a lot of them around and they seemed to move between stanley and glasgow, all the occupations are in the cotton industry. I hope some of this helps, as I am still looking at this line of the family I will keep my eyes open for John.

hi james, thanks for your reply, its a bit confusing ,at that time in the 1840s, there are two lachlan mcqs in gatehouse , there is the one you mentioned who married roseanna, , also there is my great uncle lachlan who married margaret hastings in the manse at anwoth on 25th nov 1869, he left the area for a while to join the police in liverpool, a son john mcgaw mcquarrie was born there, they returned home ,both died in gatehouse.roseanna is in the census and she gives her birthplace as lanark, she had three children i think, lochlena, rebecca, and agnes i think there is a connection but its very hard to find, i have often seen archibalds line and wondered if there was a connection with them, one of mary and johns daughters mary married a man called robert mcquarrie from knapdale she died soon after, i wondered if they were cousins ,having the same surname, there could be a lead there, its not an easy task i keep getting sidelined but ill keep going ,its so infectious once you start, ill keep a lookout for your line ,good luck in your search,
