Hello Jen, welcome to TS.
HOORAY - somebody researching Reids and Hoggs in Midlothian - maybe we have some connections. My verified Hoggs start with William Hogg and Mary Braid in the early 1700s, through Agnes Hogg I then go via Crookston's to get to the Reids. They were scattered throughout the Lothians. Would love to share info if you think we're barking up same tree.
Best wishes

Isabella HOGG - 6 December 1855 in Macmerry, East Lothian - married Alexander Fairgrieve abt. 1876.
John HOGG - abt. 1809 in Pencaitland, East Lothian - married Marion Fairgrieve 14 December 1838 in Penston.
Margaret HOGG - 22 August 1874 in Newtown, East Lothian - married Peter Fairgrieve 30 December 1898 in Newtown. (I am related to Peter).
I have other Hogg's in my tree which I don't have a direct connection to, but uploaded inadvertently from a relative's tree. All are from the area of East Lothian. Is there anything here which you would like more information for?

kind regards maggie
I guess you and my husband (and my boys of course) may have a connection.
My husband's mother was Mary Love Sommerville Douglas. The Love makes it pretty don't you think?
If you can give me some information regarding birth places etc. I may be able to make the connection. Am off for the day now, it is Australia Day and husband is a muso so we are off to watch him play. Am doing volunteer work tonight, work tomorrow, so may not be able to get back to you until tomorrow night.
Take care,
Jen.

Hi from Queensland Jennovo.
I have some distant relatives who lived in Tranent called Fairgrieve.
This may be too recent for you since this was in the late 1940's and early fifties.
The Parents were Thomas and Angusina (Aunt Ina)
Children
Robert, Jean, Catherine,George, Brydon, Thomas, Angusena, (Ena)
Janet, Elizabeth and Aileen
I am sure some of the children may still be alive. Aileen, the youngest would be around 69.

Thank you for your welcome Scozzie,Scozzie wrote:G'Day Jennovo - Welcome to Talking Scot. Lots of Aussies here - I'm in Melbourne, transplanted from Lanarkshire, via Adelaide.
I'm a dinky di aussie, born and bred in New South Wales. My maternal grandfather, James Wallace, was born in Glasgow, as was my husband, though neither of them were the triggers for my Scottish obsession. My old aunts believed my greatgrandfather was born in Glasgow but on his marriage certificate he stated that he was born in Tranent, Haddington and that set me off, now I have dozens of rellies from that area. Until then I was happy plodding around in my McMenamin line (my maiden name) it was funny how quickly I shrugged off my Irish heritage and embraced my Scottish blood.!! LOL!
Will be visiting Melbourne later this year, October I think. Have not been since I was a little girl when we flew down - My husband asks if it was on the back of a Pteradactayl!!!!!
Take care,
Jen.

My third great grandmother was a Fairgrieve (Marion) but I also have the name attached to me again and again. The latest I have in my tree was born in 1986 in Edinburgh. I am in contact with a Fairgrieve cousin who has provide me with a vast amount of information. Your names are not in my tree but I will ask my cousin if he is familiar with these names. I am also researching the surname Reid which I notice you have in your tree.
My great grandfather, William George Reid, is my brick wall. I cannot find his birth nor his immigration to New Zealand or Australia, though I have a tonne of information on his grandfather!!!!!!! Can you tell me a bit about your Reid line ?
Thank you Wini,
Jen.
