Greer family
Well done Jack. I tried without success to find Mary and Anne. Real bonus to get 1855 birth.
Did find the family on the 1871 census. listed under Greer.
Buggate, Bothwell
John Greer 40 Head Coal Miner born Ireland
Bellinda Greer 46 Wife born Ireland
Mary Greer 15 daughter Worker in Print Field born Lanarkshire Chapelhall
Francis Greer 11 son Coal Miner born Lanarkshire Coatbridge
John Greer 9 son Scholar born Lanarkshire Coatbridge
James Greer 6 son Scholar born Lanarkshire Coatbridge
Patrick Greer 4 son born Lanarkshire Coatbridge
Cathrine Greer 11m daughter born Lanarkshire Chapelhall
Also, in a different household at the same address is a Mary Cairnan age 86 a Widow born in Ireland. Could be a relation of Isabella? Entry is at bottom of page so don't know who else is in the household.
There is also a possible death of William McCreer in 1857 in Holytown, Lanarkshire, which would explain why he isn't on the 1861 census.
Regards,
Isobel

Re: Greer
Thanks Isabel for the info, which has, indeed, been my family. I managed to get all the birth certs, with exception of Ann, whose death cert. I did manage to get. Will look for Ann's birth cert. soon
I will check the census entry for Mary Cairnon, to find out if there were any family members living with her. She is indexed on Scotlandspeople as Cairner. The census and death entries for Mary Greer or Hynds are a great help. The address Welsh Row, is one which I have already come across, for another family member. Thanks, also, to all the other people, who have offered suggestions and located certs.
I hope to get back to research, as soon as I get rid of this every worsening cold, which I have had for abt 3 weeks.
Bye for now.

Re: Greer
I am not aware of any connection with Greers in Port Glasgow, but, in this game, you cn never say definitely that there is no connection.
I have also checked out the info I had downloaded for Greer family members, and which were not related, but James Greer is not on the list.
Perhaps your family is like mine, regarding spelling of names.
Good luck
