maxwells pub
Just to let everyone who tried to help me with this enquiry, that finally! I have managed to solve the puzzle! Many many belated thanks......due to all your replies, and a day spent in Reg house, I proved that this pub was a family concern throughout many years! Pinkshoes, the Annie concerned lived in Laurieston and her children are still around the area....
searching for Jacks, Williamsons, Maxwells, Wardlaws, Hardies, Bennies, Kays, Bruce, Sneddon, Dougall and Galloway all mainly Polmont and Muiravonside areas - basically all families from Polmont!!

Brilliant news Lainey! I wondered how'd you'd got on with it. Was in Laurieston a couple of weeks ago (first time in many a year) and I have to say the only building that looked anything like the Lauries I remember wasn't in the right place! My recollection (and that of hubby) was of a light coloured building with a flat-ish roof, just off the main road on the Brightons Rd. Only thing I could see up there was something like a wee supermarket thing. The pub that was likely Maxwell's was right enough on the spot we identified on the map. So was that Lauries, and is my memory playing tricks?
Anyway, glad to hear the happy outcome.
Best wishes

Later : I've just noticed you have Jacks in your family - I have one who died in Laurieston in 1936 - wonder if there's any connection? I've not really pursued them in detail, as it's a "related through marriage" line but I do have some info that I obtained in Edinburgh, if it turns out to be the same people.

jacks
Hi pinkshoes....
All my Jacks are from around that kind of area....Brightons, Redding etc. Do you want to throw a few names at me and I can see if I have them? I have loads so wouldnt know where to start. The Jacks actually tie in with my Maxwells.....My gr gr grandfather had a Maxwell as a father, but his mother hadnt married so he was reg with Jack as a surname from his mum. Names that go with are Aitken, Williamson, Laing, to name but a few. The only unusual thing that may stick out is that a christian name of Gardener was often used in the family, but of course, not always!

JACKS
Hi Pinkshoes, I only have one Mclaren and Jack [Peter mcLaren and Bethia W Jack] married Grangemouth, I have other McLarens but not linked to Jacks. Only one Livingstone in my tree........very very distant.
I have few Nicols......Nicol/Cumming, Nicol/Bennie, Nicol/Mcoustra, but again quite distant.
Thats not to say I wouldnt have info on them though! Got loads of grave photos and I hate to think how much I've spent at SP [like most of us!] so hundreds of certs mostly this area.....I'll have a wee look and let you know if these names are there. They are not the most common in this area, so you may be lucky
Cheers for now
