My own particular favourite was an 82 year old man married to a 20 year old woman somewhere in the wilds of Aberdeenshire. They're not mine but belong to a friend. I was so convinced that it was a transcription error that I checked the census films at NRH and lo and behold the age was as clear as daylight.

I have found a few young women in their late 20s married to young men of about 19 or 20. My suspicious mind suggests that they were keen to get married and the young man was not thinking with his brains. Before he knew it the options had closed off somewhat.

Aye weel, - options closed off indeed, - is there some suggestion here of a certain type of firearm being involved :!:

My favourite is the lady who took 10 years off her age when she married, and maintained the deception all her life  . That she only had one child because she was over 40 when she married should have clued him in, but it doesn't seem to have mattered.

A lot of my catholic girls married about the age of 17, and the men early 20's. The others mostly seem to be over 21.
