Strange isn't it? Someone suggested the family may have been there while the father had some sort of training. Maybe I'll never know. Unless if I go further back I will find more Scottish connections.
Thank you for all the help - I really struggle to find anything myself. But when I do it's a real achievement

I did look for a possible marriage and i found one possibility although it was in 1883 and the 1881 census says "wife" not that that means its 100 % but i think her name was Tiffin ? but will double check.

This is the closest to it if Elizabeth Tiffin is yours.
Births Mar 1855
Tiffin Elizabeth Maldon 4a 189
Maldon is in Essex and Cambridge is on the boarder.
An 1861 census has an Elizabeth Tiffin age 4 (b abt 1857) Wisheall, Cambridgeshire, England in Sunderland with mother Harriet 27 and siblings Eleanor,2 and Alphonso, 3m. The father must be away at sea - it has Harriet as Seamans wife.
Harriet Ann Bown married an Alphonso Howard Tiffin 1854 Jul-Aug-Sep quarter in Wisbech Cambridgeshire, Norfolk again possibly them as i dont see too many Alphonso's on the searches ! But it looks like this Alphonso has declared himself unmarried in 1871 ? then in 1891 is married to a Sarah.
All this is pure speculation dont forget and the English system makes for many wasted certificates ! Maybe your contact can piece something together from this
All the BMD,s can be found on the link previously although i think 1837online (if its still called that ?) is more complete.

Thank you Tracey
Thank you Tracey
I couldn't find Elizabeth's maiden name - but now I have it I am sure I can find out more. I thought research would be straightforward, but it hasn't been for this one - mainly due to family legend that Robert Henry Vasey was born in Alloa and a brother was left behind when the family moved to England. It now seems only RH's father James was born in Alloa - and no other family.Great to have that little mystery sorted. My own family link with Scotland did work out!I couldn't have done it without help thank you a million times
