Hi April
I live in Kilbarchan and know something of the church(es) history.
The seceders and free church combined to form a breakaway from the established church in the village but after a century or so decided to join the established church of Scotland. All records were sent to Edinburgh in the 1970s but there are gaps in the records which date back to the original breakaways.
The two old graveyards are not well documented either so some of the M.Is have been lost.
McKemmie is no longer a village name but there are still Borlands in the village.

Thanks for the info April
I recently started a Kilbarchan Family history/Local history group and these are the kind of links we are hoping to make to follow village families in their moves to all parts of the world.
One member can trace her direct Borland line for 250 years in the village.
Fascinating stuff.

You are so right, I got my vital records mixed up. I did manage once to research for someone by going to the state library, it was great, didn't even have to book, although I may not be so lucky if I tried again
