Hi Rex

It'll take me ages to decipher all your info - you've done a huge job there! I've only just recently found the connection to Daniel Hotchkiss as I've only recently done work on my mother's paternal line which goes back through Rosses to Clelands to Hotchkisses ...

Appreciate all your work and I'm going to spend some time working out which ones are actually my distant relatives - with the aid of a large gin or two .....

Rex yes its the same family.
I was given this info from a member online
Margaret Glegg and Hugh Sharp
Married 28th March 1847 in Larbert Stirlingshire
Jessie Sharp had at least 2 brothers both born in GREENOCK.
John Gleg Sharp 13/September 1858 Middle or New Parish Renfrew Greenock.
William Sharp 21 November1856 same Renfrew Greenock
They must have died young.
I know there was another William born in Falkirk
William Glegg Sharp 1/october 1860 they often gave children the same name as one who died.
The family moved to Falkirk in 1860.
The census i have is 1881
Dwelling Bainsford Falkirk
The census should read Falkirk Stirling /Larbert Stirling

I've just spent some time going over all Rex's info and Liz - I'm pretty sure we're related!!! Am I right in thinking Liz that you descend from the same couple

Richard Hotchkiss (my 4 x gt grandfather) who married Jane MacDougall (just downloaded his son Daniel's death cert from SP) were the parents of Daniel Hotchkiss who married Jessie Thomson Henderson.

Isabella Hotchkiss (daughter of Daniel and Jessie) married Alexander Clelland 3/12/1872 Torryburn, Culross.

Isabella Clelland (daughter of Alexander Clelland and Isabella Hotchkiss) married Henry James Gray Ross - who was my great grandfather!!

I'm amazed at this, because as I was saying to folks at the lunch today, I only started looking at my mum's paternal family at the beginning of this year, because we knew nothing at all about them. Contact was lost when my grandfather was lost at sea during WW2.

Rex - thanks again for all this info. I did plan to do some housework this weekend, but that's now on hold

Daniel Hotchkiss widower of Jessie Henderson, died on 5/5/1895 at Hilton Cottages, Western Cadder. He was a timekeeper at the ironstone pit. His death was notified by his son-in-law Robert Walker from Kinneil, Bo'ness. (Jessie died prior to this).

I think I've just found another child for this pair - Richard b 22/2/1852 in Bothkennar. You'll see that there's a gap to be filled between Isabella born in 1850 and Daniel b 1862 (Richard now fits in there, but that still leaves a 10 year gap - very uncommon in those days, so I think I've got more children missing here).

I agree, but I can't find any others, and they weren't there in 1861. Maybe Daniel went off in the army for a while, or tried to start a place in America or something.
