Hello Jack :D

Once again you are a wee diamond.

And that is so promising with old Isabella being alive in 1861, poor woman aging 30 years in only 20, I have days like that!!!

I realise now I have been muddying my waters by popping in the maiden name in my DC searches. I've had *s everywhere imaginable to try and come up with the variations of Margaret Isabella McAllister (nee MacKintosh), however, by putting in just a plain and simple Is* M*Allister born 1791 with a 10 year margin of error gets me 6 matches........now to get the £6 to get at those matches.....mmm...how to disguise this habit on the bank statement?????

As I'd drawn a monumental blank on William and realised he'd popped off our mortal coil way before 1855, I'd popped him to one side until I came up with the most gobsmacking inspiration which may help me find him....that could take some while!

......Now to find just whose daughter young Isabella is. I've found a 6yr old Isabella in 1841 (admittedly only on freecen so there are probably umpteen out there I don't know about), living in Brewery St, Barony, parents Daniel & Catherine, siblings Helen & William. Naming patterns spring to mind and this Daniel is listed as a Rope-maker Journeyman, my William McAllister was a Ropespinner.......but they are in limbo as I've not managed to prove or disprove a link.

First things first...hopefully an informative death cert awaits 8-[ Please let the informant have actually know something about them. [-o<

Thanks very much once again Jack,
All the best
Donna

Quick update,

Have been on SP & not found her yet. Several Isabellas and Margarets pass away from 1861 onwards.

The ones I thought were right place weren't her.

What on earth could she have called herself or did she go off to die like cats do????

Any lateral thought and input would be much appreciated...she's got to be there somewhere.

Thanks all
Donna

Hurrah!!!! \:D/

I've found her....actually, I should be more reverant, this is the death of my Gx5 grandmother.....BUT....I've got her!

Further more her father was called Daniel....so I'm going to go off looking down that avenue re the grand-daughter. Son Robert was the informant...smack wristies to him for not knowing his granny's name [-X

Whoooo-hooooo.

Thank you to all of you with your input.

All the best

Hi Donna,
Well done on finding Isabella's DC - you sound happy girl. :D
Maybe family historians are the only folk who dance a jig when when we find a deid rellie....
I dare say you'll have all this by now?
But in case not, and a lot of guesswork & wishful thinking on my part....

but maybe no harm in proving or eliminating?

:D

Yes I am a happy girl and you've made me even happier with all that info to be proved or disproved.

I'm going to have to be very restrained....spent too much this morning on the wrong deaths!...... .......but with my one remaining SP credit I've done a quick search for the death of Daniel M*A*ister, YOB 1817 with margin of error of 10 and it came back with 8, of which 3 are possibles, a Blythswood, a Calton & a St Rollox.

I know that in 1871 (yes I got the Robert McAllister 1871 census that I didn't have) Robert and family were in 148 West Nile Stret (the now Amalfi Pizzeria!) and that classed as Blythswood, so that'll be first on my list.

Re the census info, I only had 1841 so sending me on that information is fantastic. Again, it puts them all in the right areas as the two Isabella's were in in Glasgow "High" and the names are too coincidental...surely!

My god, once I find the DC that ties all this lot in...and I'm sure it will....you'll probably hear me Whooooo-hoooo 500 miles up the road! :P

Thank you once again Jack for your invaluable help.

p.s. on a different note re my Millar/Gray bit, when I tracked back one of the names I had on John Millar's will, I managed to get John's sibling Agnes.....going forward to the missing link George.....well it would appear he was missing a link, Annette has kindly ordered the Poor Relief apps from him & his wife which run to some 7 pages! It was George's son George who married Agnes McAllister, grand-daughter of this Robert. And to think that at the beginning of the year my dad didn't even know his Grandad's name.

Thanks again for your help on that one too.

Confusing relations....

Post by Alienore » Fri Sep 01, 2006 12:03 am

Hi hun

Remind me and I'll have a look at Margaret Mackintosh for you when I next visit Register House - ironic that she's from Redcastle.... wouldn't it be weird if we were related in more than one way?

Nice one hunnybun,

She dies an Isabella, the Margaret bit was thrown in by grandson Robert when registering dad Robert's death.

Started a ScotlandsPeople search but I'm not made of money!

I'm getting delusions of grandeur and going for a Rennie Mackintosh connection! Willow Tea Room's in spitting distance of the Amalfi Pizzeria and I had photographers & scene painters in that family.......

Might get you to have a wee butchers at a couple of Daniel McAllister deaths if my credit card hasn't recovered before your next visit.

Update - death cert for brother found

Post by Jockbird » Fri Sep 08, 2006 10:27 pm

Jack,

Just to let you know that daniel was mine after all.

Found his death cert. He died at the City Poorhouse in 1877....can't believe his brother was along the road in a big house in West Nile street...but there you go.

Rather unhelpfully he gives the mother's maiden name as Logan!!! Mackintosh is fine...where did he get Logan from???? but I'll bear it in mind when I need to think out the box.

Thanks again for a sterling effort and helping smsh another wall.
