Re: Desperately Seeking SHARON....CALDWELL / URE.....
I think the PM button can move around depending on the Board Style you have in Board Preferences. Prosilver will be different to Subsilver2. If you are logged on there should be a PM button somewhere in the area of the post made by the person you want to contact. If it isn’t there you’re probably not logged onto the forum.
Click on the PM button and its much the same as making a post. The subject heading will be there already, you can delete the ‘quote’ text in the message body if you want, type whatever in the box, and click the preview and submit button or just the submit button.
That’s as far as I know,
Alan

Dear Alan and others,
Thank you so much for your efforts to resolve the PM problem.
Alan, I have just sent you a PM to see if you receive it, but the box I used reappeared as before, empty, and with the words "the requested users to be added do not exist" so I think maybe it won't have reached you. I haven't received the PM you sent me as qwerty.
Thanks again for your efforts and here's hoping it gets resolved in the end.
Ellen.

Hello Sharon,
This is Ellen again.
There seems to be a problem with the Private Message system but if you post me again on the forum I'll post my email address for you to use and delete it after you've used it.
I do hope you'll post back on the forum as I have lots of family history to share with you.
Regards.
Ellen.

Hi.
If there is a technical problem I'm sure RUSSELL & the TS techno ANDREWP will be on to it, and will contact you.
This site is very well served by it's ADMIN COMMITTEE. They do a sterling job.
Alan SHARP.
PS Just had several goes at a PM to 'qwerty' there could well be issues, as it took me several tries to get a message to appear in my OUT box. There is no sign of last night's try. We will see if it gets through. I had to hit submit twice.
12 Hours later. A PM to [qwerty] Ellen, is still in my out box, awaiting for you/her to log on and attempt to retrieve it. Cheers. Alan SHARP.

Hi Sharon & Ellen
I've sent test PMs to both of you with no apparent problems. Please reply to them once you get them.
Best wishes

Hello Ellen,
Still guessing, but if the PM facility has never worked for you, and if you’re confident you are following all the correct procedures, perhaps the problem is your user name, qwerty. There may be something in the phpBB forum software that has a problem with a user name that can represent something else in computer terms. Maybe there are security issues with such a user name, or whatever.
If nothing else works maybe you’ll have to re-register on TS with a new user name and a new password and start afresh.
Alan

Hello Alan,
In reply to the post in your name, but from "Currie", the name qwerty is okay 'cos I used it to send PMs a few years ago and still have the copies .....just to clear that one up. Thanks. Ellen.

Hi ELLEN.
By now your head must be spinning. You have two (hopefully GENTLEMEN) both signing themselves with the given/Christian name Alan, posting on your forum post. One with the user name of "Currie" in Australia, and myself Alan SHARP in good old NZ (New Zealand.) My Auzzie friend likes a good curry, and is brilliant at searching the web for old press clippings, and obscure facts.
Your PM exchange with me this evening has been successful, so we must be doing something right. I have on-forwarded a copy of your PM to TalkingScot's techno AndrewP, and he may spot your problem. What ever happens just keep trying. I/We do now have a network of private email addresses, and we will work our way around your problem without the need to go public, with your or Sharon’s private email addresses for service. If all else fails I'm prepared to act as an intermediary.
Alan SHARP.
PS Another problem to be aware of is if your email service provider decides that an email from TS is SPAM, it may be holding the incomming email back from you in a spam folder. If such folders exist with your provider, check out the folder, and do what ever you are prompted to do, to emable emails that you wish to get through, can get through.

Hi Alan,
Am going on forum to say that 2 PMs sent to you to acknowledge yours about email address, and one to Lesley B (at 9am today, now 4pm) remain in my outbox, not sent. Are they usually fairly instantaneous? Anyway, that's just for info.incase relevant to what's happening. I'll check outbox again later.
(Yes, my heid is burstin')
Thanks again.
Ellen.
PS Have got the SPAM thing covered, thanks.
PPS When do you sleep????
