Hi David

I'm even more confused :?

Have had a look again at some of my records and see that on the marriage certificate of Maryann Kelly to David Hayes 1899 her father is given as Edward Kelly and mother Sarah Burns. It is the same add as the rest of the family and the age is correct so I assume that is is the right MaryAnn.

Any idea why her father would not be given as William Kelley ?

Have you any other suggestions of where I might find William & sarah marriage-if there was one !!!

I wonder if I have found out the reason why Willam & Sarah's son William John changed his name to William John Burns as did his son John Burns Kelly drop the Kelly. The plot thickens.

Thanks again for the help

Hi Frances

Aye weel, genealogical research is like this.

Given that all the birth register entries that I've seen so far show the kids' father as William, I'd have to believe that, and see the name Edward in 1899 as a mistake.

All I can think of as a further place to look would be the Catholic Records for the 1850s, - held by the Glasgow Archdiocese, - see
http://www.rcag.org.uk/history_A2_genealogy.htm , and see what they
can advise, except that, as I stated earlier, any marriage after 1855, even
if celebrated according to the rites of the RC church, should appear in the marriage registers of the General Registrar Office for Scotland .......
