In memory of Pte Thomas Bateman, Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders killed in action in 1943 at the age of 20 in Tunisia.

Guardsman James Anderson 13873 C Coy 1st Bn Scots Guards killed in action 30th March 1916 and also all the men who died with him on that date all buried together in Belguim.

Although we never knew him
We will remember him

Age-29,Died 22/071916-Dantzig Alley British Cemetery,Mametz.
Son of William &Christina Scott,Penicuik.Husband of Christina Scott nee Topping,8 Lindsay Place,Shottstown,Penicuik.Father of Ann,Christina,Margaret & John.
Returned to the front after being invalided out after recieving a"White Feather".My Great-Uncle -a handsome loving & beloved Husband & Father.
My Grandpa's little brother.

Thomas Waddell-Private-278573-1/7th Bn,Argyll&Sutherland Highlander
Killed by sniper whilst rescuing a wounded comrade-23rd April 1917-aged 22
Son of John &Margaret Waddell nee Leitch.11 Nairn St Dalmuir.
Arras Memorial-"The blood was running down his kilt" My first realisation that War causes pain to all families.My Grandpa's beloved elder brother who he worshipped & the only time I saw him cry was when he talked of his "red-headed big brother".

My Granny's cousin,her contemporary.

David Ross-Private-Black Watch(Royal Highlanders)S/23856-died 06/10/1919
Interred Kilbowie Cemetery Clydebank.
David was my Maternal Granny's elder brother.He enlisted under-age.His Father brought him back twice.The third time he "if he thinks he's a man let him be one"Injured by a bullet wound in the back in Ireland.Paralysed & with Renal Failure he took three years to die.He would sit & watch the World& the lassies go by his window-dragged there on a rug by my "wee Granny Peggy" & his younger brother.
I have just realised that David,Gilbert &Thomas were all living in the same small area.Possibilly-probably knew one another-especially from the Monkey Parade & none had the privilege of marrying & having children.
A lost generation indeed!

My Grandfather John Scott-veteran of Boer War,SA Police & badly wounded in France&Flanders.Treated at Erskine Hospital where he met & married my Granny.
Erskine Hospital are always fund raising maybe a good time to remember them.

Remembering my Grandfathers cousin Ernest Seath Young, 755380, 113 Sqdn., Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 26/11/1940 in Egypt.

Remembering my Mothers uncle Adam Learmonth T/10662743, 63 (Airborne) Div. Comp. Coy., Royal Army Service Corps, died 23/06/1944 in France

Remembering my Grandfather, Robert Young, died 19/07/1943 in Burghlee Colliery, Loanhead - keeping the home fires burning.

Remembering all the others lost associated with wars, they were all someones brother, sister, father, mother, uncle or aunt.

Private Ewen McRae who died 21st April 1917 in Mesopotamia age 25

Private William Turner McRae, 202367, 4th Bn Gordon Highlanders who fell at Arras 9th April 1917 age 19. Remembered with Honour at Tilloy British Cemetery, France
Sons of Farquhar and Isabella McRae, Kirkton of Rayne, Aberdeenshire

My second cousin
Private Robert J Proctor, 2877694, 5/7th Bn Gordon Highlanders who fell in Normandy 16 June 1944 age 23. Remembered with Honour at Ranville War Cemetery. Son of Robert and Jessie Proctor, Dufftown

Private William Green, 265729, 6th Bn Gordon Highlanders died 16 May 1917 age 28. Remembered with Honour at Arras Memorial. Son of Adam and Annie Green, Dufftown

In memory of my grandfather's older brother John Rushton of the Gordon Highlanders,born 1893 , died 6th.Sept.1916 at Ginchy. Commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial. France-the memorial to the missing.

Buried at Bapaume Australian Cemetery, France.

My great-granny's wee brother,
Private James Wanless McDougall , 8870 , 2nd Battalion Scots Guards, killed December 18 1914 ( confirmed February 1916) , aged 24, Memorial at Ploegsteert.


My grandfathers cousin Thomas Dryburgh Liston, Assistant Engineering Officer, SS Glenfinlas, killed on 6 April 1941 aged 23 at Harwich, when a bomb was dropped down the funnel of his ship.

On behalf of my children, their great grand-uncles:

Ignatz Brunitz, died 30 Nov 1944, Saldus, Latvia , buried there.

Pieter Cassiman, died 1 Oct 1918, Houhulst, West Flanders,
Memorial at Dendermonde.

In remembrance of all those who lost their lives in war, and of all those who lost their loved ones.
