CROSSAN RELATIVES
In response to djcrtoye:
Do you know if your James Crossan had any other siblings at Coatbridge when he came from Ireland?
My grt grt grandmother was Jane Crossan who was I think, born in Ireland around 1833. Her husband was James Coulter also Irish. The married in Cadder on 11th November 1851. They lived around the Coatbridge / Airdrie area and had 9 children who were all born New Monkland, Old Monkland or Cadder. Would love to find a connection to either Crossans or Coulters anywhere. Jane lived to the grand old age of 85 where she met with a terrible death, wherein she died by drowning in the Bothlyn Burn, Chryston.
By the way Karrie, I live fairly local to Addiewell and there are still quite a few Crossans living in and around Addiewell. I have just counted a dozen in the local phone directory.

Response-Dusty: Thanks for the info. I will check that out.
Response-Baird: I know Paddy Crossan had a bar on Rose Street and was one of the Hearts who fought in WWI. Paddy survived the war, but later died in 1933 (not yet 40 yrs. old) as a result of his lungs being destroyed by poison gas. His bar survived under his name until sometime in the 1990s.

Karrie Bragg.
I have just seen your posting of 2007 re the Crossan family. My brother and I have been looking recently at investigating our family tree. My paternal grandmother was Isabella Crossan and she lived in Addiewell. She was married to James Whyte and she had eight children. Her eldest son Jimmy was my father. My granny Isabella was Mary and Margaret Crossan's sister. We used to go to Kilbowie Road, Clydebank and also Johnston where Aunt Mary and Maggie lived. My aunt Mary also had daughters May, Marion, Ina and Agnes. I think she also had a son Tommy who I believe died when he was young. She married Tommy McCulloch. My aunt Maggie had three boys Robert, Eddie and Jim who you mentioned played for Celtic she also had a daughter Betty who died when she was young. My granny Isabella' s children were Mary, Jimmy, Maggie, Dan, Ellen, Patrick, Lawrence and Joseph. My father married my mother who was Irish. He met her when he went to Ireland to visit his uncle Mick Crossan . I also know about Paddy Crossan as my father also visited him in Edinburgh. Mick Crossan was my granny's brother. I do not know the names of the other brothers she had but I hope this info helps. I would like to know if you have any info that would help my brother Jim and I in our investigations. Regards, Eilish Fleming

Greetings Elizabeth.
It would appear that you may not have got a reply from Karrie, unless on another thread. If her email contact has changed since 2007, she will not have been advised of your post on this thread.
Have you tried Googling to see where else she has been actively searching?
http://www.google.co.nz/#hl=en&sa=X&ei= ... 07&bih=531
Just one of many combinations that you could try. Therein you may find a clue for a successful contact.

Re: James and Rose Crossan.....
Not sure if there's still anyone around on the subject of Crossans. My middle name is Crossan, after my grandfather (john Crossan who died before I was born) who was brother to the Hearts footballer, Paddy Crossan. He married my gran, Kate and I think her maiden name was McKenna and they came from Addiwell. Are there any relations in or around Addiwell who would have some knowledge of either of my grandparents? Thanks
