MARY,

The reason I am asking is that I am going to have Broadband very soon and the Techie advised that I would need a Network card.
When I look at Network connections it says

LAN or High speed Internet

Local Area connections
Network cable unplugged
Intel (R) PRO/100 VE NETWORK

WIRELESS NETWORK CONNECTIONS
NOT CONNECTED
INTEL(R) PRO/ WIRELESS 2200BG

Hope this means something to you

I'd say this indicates that you already have a network card and it has looked for, but not found, a cable connecting it to a network. This is good news for you, as you don't need to buy and fit one

Basically, the same answer as for the LAN (Local Area Connection) meaning that you've already got a wireless facility installed but, because you don't have a wireless moden or router, it can't connect. When you change to broadband your supplier will supply one of these.

I emailed the shop I bought the computer from
He replied that it does have a network card as they are now standard in new computers
