The village I lived in on Seil only had house numbers or house names and the village name, even though there were "streets" (wee lanes off the main lane running through the village).

Only one section had a street name, and that was only built a few years ago! Thankfully, the builder was a villager so they all look very much like the cottages in the old part :D

Hi heather,

Check out

http://www.nls.uk/maps/early/os_scotlan ... _list.html

Then Sheet 71- 6,D. (roughly a third along and a third down) There you should find Tighnabruaich and Auchenlochan.

This is the ref. I picked up this morning regarding Ferguslie being a B and B.

SLEEPING Section- middle paragraph.

A 63 yr old Mary John*on* is definately in Kilfinan Parish in Argyll in the 1901 census ( Tighnabruich and Auchenlochan are in this Parish)

Hi Ian,
thank you for the links. I have seen the entry of Mary Johnstone on the 1901 census you mention but there is no sign of my grandfather William who would have been 12. I believe Jack has found them for me in Kelvin Glasgow which fits with a marriage for his sister Mary there in 1897.
All the best,
Heather
