If that's via the death register entry, from www.scotlandspeolople.gov.uk , showing a 47 year old miner married to Mary, then we're on the same track.maple23 wrote:yahoooooooo....think I have found the parents on SP - Edward and Barbara Chapple
But cross-check the parents with the info on his marriage register entry, where his mother's maiden name is shown differently, - the first 4 letters are very close!, and one of them matches the IGI surname, - looks like the death register entry informant got it wrong
The plot thickens if you look for Mary's death register entry, - she remarried after George's death, but the widower gives a different given name for her father, never mind a surname which is elsewhere that of her mother ....... the marriage register entry for her remarriage tells the full tale relating to her mother's matrimonial affairs, apart from still not letting us know just who Mary's father was .................

Re Mary Sharp - Crichton
Hi Maple,
I think this is the family of George CHAPPLE's wife Mary SHARP.
Her mother, also Mary, was firstly married to Sinclair AITKEN, then later to Thomas WATERS.
In between she had children James SHARP & Mary SHARP (who married George).
