CAMPBELLS

Post by laineywoo » Sat Mar 17, 2007 10:13 am

Hi again
Anne on both wedding and death certs it is def Mary Campbell MS Cairney/Kearny.
Thanks Andrew for confirmation of the address of the Peter Cairnie. I thought Sneddon/Sheddon, but its a bit unclear on the cert. I will def get a copy of this census and see if it rings any bells.
Strange train of thought here, but I keep thinking this isnt right........simply because Peter and Grace seemed to be quite "good" Catholics. ie born out of wedlock just doesnt seem to follow this family's trends .......... now other side s of the family!, yes its quite normal, but the catholic side seemed to have more "morals"?
I have a feeling that Peter will remain the "mystery" of the tree. I just wish the family had put all the DOB's on their gravestones lol........wishful thinking!

Don't know if this helps or hinders...
The 5yr old *Peter in 1861 is now a 15yr old shoemaker in 1871.
As born Paisley, but the family are now in Glasgow.

Jack.......Many thanks. I can now at least def strike Peter Cairney of the list of possibles. This Peter was a shoe maker.........mine def a farm servant. Added with the fact that you found him married to a Jane, then I'm 99.9% sure this is a not my Peter.
I had been reading all the Irish Links that TS has yesterday, and this morning started checking the Irish Ancestry site. As stated before, there seems to be lots of Mary Kearney [seems to be most pop option for spellings but there are others] and quite a few Peter Cambpells. Might be pushing my luck, but I am hopeful that if they were Irish, they would be from either Down or Antrim, just because most of the other sides of the family are. I think this will be my next port of call. I will try with the naming system, but think the Irish may have a diffent way, as Grace and Peters sons dont follow Scots patterns.
Going by the names of Peter and Grace's sons, Samuel Peter was the first that I have found, followed closely by James, and then Daniel.
Anyway, think this is about the only option left.....unless anyone else can think of anything I'm missing :?: I cant think of any other written proof that I could poss find, ie I have his grave photo, wedding cert, death cert, 81, 91 and 1901 census's. The birth cert and 61 and 71 were my only options that I could think of.
Thanks again for you time Jack
