It would seem to me highly probable that someone with his history might have (gasp!) changed his name
...oh, he did! For a while. He changed it back again after the law caught up with him anyway. Probably decided to keep things simple!

Appreciate this is a very old thread but am currently transcribing a list of names as part of the Corn Law Petitions and I came across this name and just thought Id do a quick search to check spelling , when I came across this thread.

If of any help, there is a Joseph Pozzie mentioned in the 1844 petition as a 'watchmaker' in Aberdeenshire. No location given but he is sandwiched between two signatories from Auchtigall , so presume he would have resided near there.

So Joseph was still in the North-east in 1844. He was in Kirriemuir in 1841, Lancashire in 1851 & 1861, then back to Scotland for a while.

I now have a fairly comprehensive picture of his life, but still want to know what became of him after 1883, when he was sentenced at Birkenhead Quarter Sessions to 6 mths in Walton Jail.
