I've had a load of these pdf attached files over the past few days as well. Worryingly, one purported to be about genealogy but it got dumped as well as I didn't recognise the email addy, so it looks as though they are harvesting from family research sites as well.

Bob C, I'd be interesting in having a look at the site you mentioned as well.

David, Although I recommended running AVG as well, I am actually hoping it finds nothing on your PC. If it does the question then arises - how long has that been infecting the PC and what was it doing? Scary.

The site I got the information on the Ecard is:
http://isc.sans.org/diary.html?storyid=3063

This is not for profit US based group of international volunteers that collaborate by submitting firewall logs of suspicious activity, analyzing the logs to determine how to defeat the attack and publishing the results.

I recently semi-retired after 25+ years in the field of information technology security and control but have retained a personal interest in what is going on so I check the above site about twice a week.

The other site that I visit on a daily basis is
news.zdnet.com

The reporters/bloggers here are pretty good in keeping up-to-date on what is going on and reporting the latest news from the security/anit-virus vendors. I scan the headlines and read the reports that are of interest. This is where I found the report on the pdf spam.

I hope this is helpful.

Thanks for that Bob.

I'll be keeping a watch on there now.

Hi Bob C

THanks for that link although it's pretty technical stuff for me! I had another attempt in my yahoo box just now.......from a sender called "netfundcards.com" entitled "you've received a greeting card from a class mate!

Best wishes
Jean

I've gotten 2 of these this week. I opened the first one, as it looked legit, but couldn't get to the site, so logged off it. Within hours, my myspace account had been phished for the first time ever! What a mess cleaning that up - took me into the next day! I couldn't help but wonder if there was a connection...

Hi ArchiveCookie
...and a warm welcome to Talking Scot. :D
Sorry to hear you have been bothered with bogus ecards. There seems to be a lot of of them about just now.

Best wishes

Thank you for the warm welcome, Lesley! It was actually an admin here who pointed me in this direction from another forum we're both on, as I was having difficulty finding info about Glasgow! Looks like I'll be playing catch-up for the first little bit...

Hi ArchiveCookie
Well, I'm glad you found us! :D
I was having difficulty finding info about Glasgow!
There are quite a number of TS members from the Glasgow area so I hope you will find the info you are looking for.

Best wishes
