Hi Jack,

That's a very good point. All roads point to it being her but I just can't find a link. The "gr-daur" must be a red herring as those surnames have no meaning. I'll have to investigate a bit further.

1871 (2 matches)-
1. Bridget (1870), grand daughter of Luke Burns.
2. Bridget (1870), daughter of Michael and Mary (ms Gorvan?) McCabe.

Note- as Jack outlines there were only two Bridget McCabe's born in 1870 Angus and these are the two- the first looks very likely the daughter of Partick and Rose (Lynch).

1881 (3 matches)-
1. Bridget (1871), daughter of Michael and Mary (ms Gorvan?) McCabe.
2. Bridget (1872), daughter of Michael and Eliza McCabe.
3. Bridget (1872), daughter of James and Ann McCabe.

Note- The first two are accounted for. The third I am not sure about as I can see only 2 Bridget McCabes born shortly after the 1871 census. 1 of which is Michael and Elliza's child while the other child is to a Patrick and Mary McCabe.

I'm going to have to spend more time on this and will post my findings. These are a confusing lot. For example when I was searching for the marriage of Patrick McCabe and Rose Lynch in Angus within a year three women named Rose Lynch married someone named McCabe- though there may have been a duplicate there. So many names are the same and the same people's ages vary so much. The names to vary. I've had so many problems with another Irish family who I later discovered had a few generations named Bridget Margaret who at various times called themselves Bridget or Margaret at will. I think I see a few Margaret Anne's in this lot too.

Thanks for the help everyone. My poor wee head is hurting so I'll give it a rest and get back to it in an hour or so.

ps; meant to say,
I'd thought maybe wee Bridget was with Luke Burns & Mary in 1871 because
Mary had lost her own child recently and was able to act as a wet nurse for the 6 month old baby.
Can't see any children born to her, but always the chance of a still birth?
But this is, of course, again pure speculation - only trying to find a reason why,
if it is the right Bridget, she was with a possibly unrelated family.

Thanks Jack for those thoughts and eliminating the rouge Bridget.

That could very well be the case as you say. I'm forgetting that Bridget was only 8 years old when her mother died. If my suspicions are corrent then her parents had no other family, other than Partick's brother, over in Scotland with them. As such I think you are right in speculating that it may not have been a family member who looked after the Bridget for her short life.

I'll have a good read through the certificates again and another search through the census from the time to see if I can find a tenious link somewhere.

Cheers for the help.
