Hi Anne M. & Anne H.

I am really in more discomfort that pain. It is certainly true that we were not designed to sit at computers or go on long rides.
I also have a hard time breaking away from the computer. I have so much that I want to do on it. When I get on a roll, I want to keep going. It is just that I seem to forget how much time that I am spending on it.

When I am on the computer time seems to go by so fast that I forget to do my exercises and I am often surprised when my husband arrives back home from work. :?

Maybe I should get a timer to tell me that I should take a break. :D

Regards
Sheila

Hi Russell
Not a comfortable condition though. Can't bend, can't stretch, can't sit for long, can't stand for long and everybody tells you how tired you look
"How are you " usual answer "Fine!" when in reality you feel drained and exhausted.
At it's worst, it is completely disabling. I speak as someone whose partner has suffered from this, but for the moment is OK. It was quite an eye-opener.
He was not able to get up, not able to walk, not able to do anything for weeks on end. The pain suffered was quite obvious and I really don't know how he managed to cope with it. No pain killers helped, even those realy strong ones you get on prescription only.... thankfully, after several months, something in his back shifted back to where it should have been (after two visits to an osteopath, three doctors visits and a hospital appointment had all achieved absolutely nothing..!) and life began to return slowly to normal... for the moment...

Best wishes
Lesley

Hi Sheila,

I used to have a wee program on my PC which you could set to pop up a "Time for a Break" message at regular intervals. One of my fellow programmers had one that disabled his keyboard for 10 minutes if he carried on working after the warning for 3 minutes.

After using it for a day, he turned off the "lockup" option

Hope it settles soon Sheila and you too Anne.
You have it down to a "T". I for one will be taking your advice! Many thanks :)

Sheila,

All you need is an old fashion "egg timer" 3 minutes and then ya need to get up and bend and strech. Now don't cheat and turn it over and over again, which is something I would never [-( think of doing.

Take good care of yourself and maybe join the YWCA for some swim classes to limber up your frame. How about a Yoga class at your local "Y"or maybe a "Karatee" class to limber up those muscles. Or maybe buy yourself a bike, with or without a motor?

Marilyn

Just listen to your pain and start moving :(

Physio, works a treat every time. These guys and gals know what they are talking about. (Physical therapy for the transatlantic among us). I'm able to function back at work largely due to mine. Haven't tried driving yet though.... that's the next hurdle. Osteopaths and chiropracters always seem a bit rough for me but they help some folk.

Definitely the cue to lose some weight and take up some more exercise, swimming, walking, pilates. Currently supposed to be resting the hip where possible.

If you have Windows Vista you can download a clock from the Gadgets window that has an alarm clock. It's a great idea. I get aches and pains too from bad posture and too much time on the laptop. It's always a good idea to get a walk. My eyes suffer badly from long spells.

A WORD OF WARNING

Post by wini » Sat Aug 11, 2007 3:55 pm

I think you are a bunch of Lucky Ducky's to spend so much time on the computer.
My time is very limited and if I can get an hour at it I think I'm lucky.
As it is it is 12.52am and I am trying to spend half an hour on SP before I go to bed. Of course I always have to check in to T.S.

When I complain to my doctor about any aches and pains she just tells me "It's old age"
I don't suppose I can argue with that
