Found this - much more likely for Jessie's birth.

Hmmm. I may have got it wrong. This looks like Elspet, James and Jean in 1841. No William in the family, it seems, although I suppose he could have been a visiting nephew or something when Emily was conceived.

Now I'm really getting confused... Here is Jane MacHardy in the Lamond household in 1871, but no sign of a William to be the father of Jessie. Not sure how we got here...

and I hope Caljam doesn't run away screaming at the sight of all this!

If Emily's mother was working in Glenshee in 1871 maybe she went to that area to have her son, William in 1872.

I did consider this but Emily and Alexander were working together during the 1871 census so he may still be the father.
