Thanks Stewie, I got the cert you e-mailed, once again can't thank you all enough, I've been looking on English sites for help on my mams side, I have to say there is much more info on the Scottish sites.

Imight be going of on a blind here but the name Donaldson runs in the family I'm researching (on behalf of my sister)
From what I understand, it was commonplace for the maiden/surnames to be given/used as middle names for children.
The name Donaldson appears in 3 generations of Robert D (McNie) and then a James Donaldson McNie married to Jeminah Clark Kincardine c early 1800;s.
Also there is an Esther Davidson (marrying a Robert D McNie in the family late 1800)
