My Granny has this on her Birth Certificate too & she said is was because they lived in a house which was behind the main road & the other buildings there.
Coincedentally Archibald Leitch is the name of my GGGreat-grandfather.Where is yours from & what was his occupation? There is a bit of a mystery with this Archibald who was from Abbey Parish & was a Freestone Quarrier.His daughter was born 1863 in Abbey Parish Mother Ellen Kerr/Carr.They never married but he certainly acknowledged her & the family were in contact with the Leitch's up to the 1940's.

Thanks for your reply. I'm sorry, the age is wrong for my Archibald. He was born in 1861 in Greenock, and married Margaret McNaught in 1880.
His parents were Dugald Leitch and Isobel Gillies. Dugald's parents were Dugald Leitch and Isabella Walker. Archibald was a carter. There are other Archibalds in the family but they are much younger, I don't know of any older ones - yet

Does the information "omoa r craw rd sanitorium s" come from a certificate? If so is there the name of a town on the cert.? Perhaps you could upload the certificate to our galery here on TS?
Google came up with Craw Road Institution, PAISLEY? which appears to have been on the same grounds and under the same authorities as a General HospitaL at one time.

the information i have is from quarriers homes ,my mum was brought up there, my grandmother was an inmate seems of craw road sanitorium paisley ,and gave up my mother ,and she was placed in omoa poorhouse ,cleland,my mothers family came to paisley from glasgow around 1900s i think not sure maggie mcnaughton

There is however a site which lists the Poorhouses

If you scroll down to Lanarkshire, you'll find the Omoa Combination Poorhouse, which appears to have been in Cambusnethan. There are several photos of the place and some information, not all pleasant reading.
