Hi Pinkshoes
But, methinks I'm in guid company!
'course you are, hen! :D We're all a bit deranged on here!! We all probably need to get out more - but heck, I was up the top of Schiehallion on Saturday - does that count?

I've tried to explain to folks - tracing families, it's a bit like doing crosswords - but a lot more use in the end!

Best wishes
Lesley

I'd say it sure does - many years since I've been at the top of anything higher than my drive, but I used to enjoy a day on the hills too. I'm sure it was fabulous Lesley - was the weather good? And, I have to say, I get out and about too - I was at the hairdresser on Saturday. After that I went to pick courgettes and runner beans at my allotment, fancy hairdo and all. Now that's living

Hi Pinkshoes
After that I went to pick courgettes and runner beans at my allotment, fancy hairdo and all.
Conjures up a wonderful picture!
Schiehallion was misty - not much to see from the top due to all the blinkin' mist. After all that hard work, there were occasional very fleeting moments when a brief glimpse of "what could have been" was revealed, then rapidly disappeared!

Oh dear, thread meander......

Best wishes

What a shame after all that effort - still, bet you felt good.

Thread meander - not to worry I'll get it back on course just as soon as I've found these Brunner weans!

I've just discovered Francis W Brunner was a Major in the Royal Engineers, and died in Gallipoli in 1915. Wife Margaret was in London at that time, but I'm sure her house was 14 Dick Place. Does anyone know if an Edinburgh Post Office directory might list her, if such a thing exists.

They certainly exist - not sure about a mention though.

Yes, Edinburgh Post Office Directories exist for that era - in New Register House, and I think in both Edinburgh Central Library and the National Library for Scotland. There's a good possibility that she would be listed there.

All the best,

AndrewP

PS (a few minutes later): The NLS online catalog show that they are missing the Edinburgh & Leith PO Directories from 1909 to 1917. The City of Edinburgh Council online library catalog shows very few of these directories (I am surprised at that). NRH definitely has a large colllection of these (all years?).

Thanks for the additional info Andrew - the missing issues are probably not a problem - if 14 Dick Place was hers, she was there in 1926 when her mother died.

Lesley

Deranged we all may be, but I find the medications are working fine now

Now I find I can usually (but not always) keep on my family of long lost deid punters  Although I still get some very strange looks from folk that dont understand what we do  And even the odd suggestion that perhaps I should see someone (hence the medications  )
