Hi Andy

In 1851 in Kilmallie there is a 55 year old Nancy NcLachlan who is, and I quote from Ancestry, a Hawker of Easthen Ware, with a 23 year old daughter Mary who is born in Glasgow. They would seem to be yours but no sign of Dad.

Did you have this sighting?

Anne

PS Nancy was born in Ireland, no surprises there and Kilmallie at that stage seems to have been in Inverness, or is this one where half the parish is in either county?? I've not viewed the image on SP.

Thanks Lesley. I am guessing she either had swelling of the heart or a build up of fluid/water

Anne, I did find 4 Nancys (aged 55-70) in Argyll, but for some reason I cannot find Kilmallie Parish to try and narrow it down.

Kilmallie appears to be missing from the censuses of 1851, 1861, 1871, 1891 and 1901 on ScotlandsPeople. In the OPRs, it is shown twice, once in Argyll and once in Inverness. As far as I can see there are no records in Kilmallie (Argyll) - they are all in Kilmallie (Inverness-shire). So make sure you do any parish specific searching for Kilmallie OPRs in the Inverness-shire section.

As a member of the ScotlandsPeople User Group, I have taken these matters up with SP and GROS and now await their answers.

All the best,

AndrewP

Hi

How about a 63 year old Nuncy McLachlan born in Ireland lodging with a family called Duffy in Glasgow in 1861? I know the age is quite far out but she's a possibility though it would not get you any further if it were she.

Thanks Andrew. I am confused as to what parish it is actually supposed to be in half the time.

Anne, I think I may go with the family up in Kilmallie for the 1851 census. I am surprised that these lines turned out to be Irish. Including the main Jones line which I have quickly traced but need time to look at it in detail.

Im going to have to pause for a bit until I get a bit more time and money to have a good look. Probably couple weeks. :(

Thanks for the help. :)
