The conclusion to my posting on 23 March regarding Register of Corrected Entries is that I have now received both newspaper items from the Hamilton Advertiser and since they give me the enough detail of both fatalities I will not order the death certificates. There is only one paragraph for each accident but it is enough to satisfy my curiosity and I will now declare my research on those twigs ended.

I've enjoyed learning about Register of Corrected Entries so thank you to everyone who contributed and to David WW for his recent Sticky posting on the subject.

Hi All

I have a death for my gggrandmother who drowned in Monkland Canal, with an RCE. But I think I will wait until they come online, as I think I have enough information on her death as it is.

Thats an interesting story, there may be something at NAS.

I have had three RCE entries, one of which added a little bit extra detail the others confirmed nothing more than the time.

However I have had one unknown death, where someone was found all the way out on the coast (Joppa Rocks in Midlothian). No RCE entry was ever added. I have no idea how she got there or why she was there. Surely there must be something else on that?

Hi Andy

I was interested by your RCE comment about a death on Joppa rocks.
That is a particularly interesting spot because it is right at the end of Portobello Promenade and also formed the teminus of the Musselburgh electric tramway line where it metat the terminus of the Edinburgh cable hauled tram system. That was about 1904.

An easily accessible spot from various directions.

Russell,

I am looking through my CD with the family tree on it and I have found another death with the cause of death column blank and the person was found at the "foot of the town". John Deas (Manufacturer) died 17th Dec. 1868 aged 78 years.

Should I create another thread rather than hijack this one with details?

I cannot seem to find the details of the death at Joppa Rocks. I will have to search for it a bit more as all my tree is on a CD until I get my new laptop delivered this week after my old one died due to drowning. Long Story

Hi Andy

Probably better a new thread as it will attract other eyes too.

Ummm nope and there wont be one :P

Just kidding.
Actually if there was one it would probably talk about accidental spillage of an acidic substance known as "cola" over the main input part of the system resulting in corrosion of the insides.

Maybe someone can put that into more human terms. lol :)

Hi Andy,

My last lappy had a slightly different end...

It "Failed to bounce on meeting the stone tiled floor of a catering unit at high velocity after trying to fly off the utility surface"

McDonald or MacDonald (some couldn't make up their mind!), Bonner, Crichton, McKillop, Campbell, Cameron, Gitrig (+other spellings), Clark, Sloan, Stewart, McCutcheon, Ireland (the surname)

The IT department of the company that I used to work for never fully believed that the reason that my laptop screen stopped working was because it had slipped off the seat in the coffee shop at Belfast City Airport, and "bounced" off the floor :!: :!: ..........

The laptop still worked perfectly well, as witness the "dock" back at my home office conected to an external monitor, just that the laptop screen had stopped working......................

Despite the fact that I was way past the date for a laptop upgrade I can put my hand on my heart regarding the incident at Belfast International being purely accidental :!: , ... I can still remember my sense of horror as I saw it starting to slip off the seat but had no chance to catch it ...............
