Hi Jack

From the 1851 census the James McAvoy age 24 Coal Miner is Ann's brother - the whole family was living on Savoy Street in Bridgeton.

I'll play around on SP and see if I can find the son John McAvoy marrying a Jessie person.

I'll let you know later tonight.

Thanks

Steph

John McAvoy & Jessie

Post by Jack » Mon Sep 12, 2005 11:23 pm

Hi Steph,

Always keep in mind that a Jessie was often really a Janet.
But saying that i've a couple of rellies who do have Jessie on their BCs, and one of them had a sister Janet.

Good luck! Jack

Hi Jack

I looked through my notes and I have Jolhn McAvoy marrying Sarah McMenemy on June 25 1869 at St Francis in the Gorbals. I have them living at 62 John Street in the Calton on 1871 Census. Tried looking on 1881 census for them but no luck. Also looked for death certificate for Sarah ( just in case) and no luck there either.

Can't do anymore tonight as the family is getting mad at me for spending so much time up here. Will pick this back up tomorrow.

Hi Steph,

On the 1869 MC of John McAVOY & Sarah McMENEMY, was his parents John McAVOY & Mary?
They have a son John (b~1847).

Couldn't have been the John McAVOY (b1859) son of James McAVOY (b~1827) & Joan JOHNSTON...!
It was this John i'd hoped had married a Jessie.

Hi Jack

My McAvoys were definately from John McAvoy and Mary Mullan ( have seen it is McMillan as well) they were from Curran Ireland if memory serves me correct ( at work right now and don't have research papers with me).

I dig again tonight when I get home.

John McAvoy b1859

Post by Jack » Wed Sep 28, 2005 10:47 pm

Hi Steph,
I've added the 1861 census details for James McAVOY (son of John McAVOY & Mary MULLAN) & Joan JOHNSTON.

It was James & Joan's son John b1859 that i was hoping had married a Jessie.

But it is speculation - you'd need to find out what did happen to John of 1859. Still with family 1871?
Was he married to a Jessie, say between 1876 & 1881?
If yes, then look for his DC before 3rd April 1881 (census night); or just look for a DC anyway.

Hope i'm not confusing us all!
