A New Scottish Research Guide

Hi All

I just found out on the internet that the book titled The Scottish Family Tree Detective, will be available at Walmart on Jan 28, 2007 for $22.50.
I have to assume that this is the book that is being discussed here.

I will phone the Walmart nearest me to find out if they will have this book.

That sounds like it.

That $ price equates to about £11.50 which, I guess is not bad for their extra shipping costs to the US, and their own profit margin, given that they'll be getting some discount on the cover price in the UK of £9.99 .

Hi All

I phoned my local WalMart and the person who answered told me that they don't know anything about this book or any of their books. It is all done by an outside company.

Maybe you have to have the book delivered to you.

Just ordered mine at Waterstones online £9.99 plus £2.50 postage.
Not sure how long it will take to come though!
Checked availability and it is sold out but limited stock in Waterstones GLASGOW SAUCHIEHA, 153-157 SAUCHIEHALL ST

Hi Shiela,

After not being able to get on the Internet for a day and half, I got all excited when I saw your post and immediately went online to WalMart to search for "The Scottish Family Tree Detective". The price I'm seeing isn't the $22.50 that you got, but a whopping $74.75 plus a mere .97 cents for postage. At that price, I think I'm cheaper ordering from the U.K.

Do you think there was a big demand at Walmart all of a sudden?

Wal Mart sent me the confirmation for my order. I am paying $22.50 plus .97 Shipping, and $1.74 CA Sales Tax. That makes a total of $25.21.

Are you sure that it was WalMart?

Can you tell me the Internet address you used? Maybe I'll have better luck.

This is really weird. I clicked on the site that you gave and it is the price that you said.
When I made my search I went on Yahoo and wrote in The Family Tree Detective and one of the sites that it gave me was Walmart.com, and when I last looked just before I typed this message the price was the same as what I ordered.

I just can't understand why there should be such a difference in prices. The one that I am ordering is the paperback version.

It is indeed weird! I pulled up Yahoo.com to try their search engine and came up with The Family Tree Detective for children at $9.95 and when I searched again within the WalMart site for The Scottish Family Tree Detective it came up with the same price of $74.75. I tried it once again on Yahoo, and there was the book for $22.50 but with a delivery date of March 30, 2007. I may have to wait a bit longer, but I'm ordering it now.

Success at last...book ordered for the total cost of $25.11 including .97 cents for shipping and $1.64 tax! Many thanks, Sheila
