As far as George (born 1840, husband of Marion) goes, there are two George Fulton deaths, of about the right age, between 1871 and 1881.

1) There is a death of a George Fulton, born 1840, in the Marine Register for 1879. Looks like he met the usual seaman's death :(

2) Otherwise, there is also a George Fulton, born 1843, who died in Dennistoun, Glasgow City in 1876. Since the age is off a bit on this one, and your George was a sailor, I would tend to go for the Marine Register death.

You have a lot of new information to digest here-- good luck!

All the best,
Sarah

Hi Nicole,

Just got one of those notices from Ancestry that someone had posted something about John Darroch Fulton. A relative through John's brother Frank has posted a family tree. You might want to check that one out.

Hi Carol, thanks that was Frank's son. I have been exchanging emails with him. I will let you know what I find out. By the way I got the birth records for the daughter of John Mowat Fulton and Helen McManus. She is definitely their daughter. However we were a little mistaken on her name. I thought it was Annie Mowat McManus Fulton but it is Annie Mowat McMenemy Fulton. McMenemy is John Mowat's mother's maiden name. I just wish I could find more info on her that didn't cost an arm and a leg. I try to do all of this for free because I can't afford to pay for all of these records and searches. Every once in awhile we get some extra money and then I can pay for records, but that is only once in a blue moon. OH, I also asked my oldest brother if he knew that our grandfather was married in Scotland..he said no but I could tell he was hiding something. Maybe it was the fact that John Mowat Fulton and Helen McManus got married because she was pregnant. They got married June 4 1920 and Annie was born September 1920. I don't know that doesn't seem a likely reason to keep a secret long after John Mowat's death. What do you think? I don't even know if my father and Aunt and Uncle even knew that they had a sister is Scotland. Eventually I will find out all of our dirty little secrets...lol

By the way I noticed in your post that you are searching Longmuir. You know John Mowat Fulton's sister Georgina married a David Longmuir. David was born abt 1898( I believe in Scotland) and died Nov 2 1974 in Cleveland, Ohio. They had only 1 child that I know of...William Longmuir. Does this by any chance match anything you have?

Hi Nicole,

Glad to see that you are having some luck tracing your family. Yes, it does get expensive! The best that you can do is stay organized and do all the free stuff first, but eventually you will have to buy some of the certificates. I'm lucky because my sister splits the cost in half with me. Our brother isn't at all interested though.

I looked at David Longmuir but as far as I can tell he isn't one of mine. That said, the Longmuir family is huge and spread out across the globe so maybe there is a distant connection! Never say never in genealogy!

thanks Carol, it is difficult but when we get soe extrs money I will order some certificates. You are absolutely right...never say never in Genealogy. Doing this research I have found out where the term "kissing cousins" comes from. Apparently it wasn't uncommon for cousins to marry back in the day. I think that is why it gets so confusing, that and the fact that you had so many people in one family with the same name.

Hello Nicole,

If genealogy funds are short and you need some extra ScotlandsPeople credits it may help if you take advantage of this kind offer. It’s been around for a while, but is still being advertised, and I suppose is still current. If there are any other family members with a separate email address they would be able to assist as well. http://www.ancestralscotland.com/newsletter/

All the best,
Alan
