Me again, the pest.... have been following David and Janet(nee nicholson) threw census... it originally said born Gretna, now it's saying Janet is born Annan.. can any tell me where is Annan and what area/county does it come under so i can try to find her baptism please, i'm really struggling with her

I see her in 1851 and 1861 at Rigg - both census records say she was born at Graitney/Gretna. 1881 at Cumberland just says Scotland. Not finding her in 1871 at the moment.

Sorry for the delay in replying Nelmit. Thanks for that, I can't find a deffinate Christening for her, the only one showing is for a JENY with parents William and Helen Rome, going on the childrens naming pattern i think this could be her, but i'm really struggling with the parents, the 1851 census she is living next door to William and Helen and a few more Ncholsons are neighbours, so i really think this is her family, but i can't find anything for her parents or a deffinate link, there are lots of Nicholsons christened in that area but no marriage for the parents!

Gender: Female Christening: 28 MAR 1813 Graitney, Dumfries, Scotland

Jeny's birth year is what you want it to be, she has named one of her daughters Irvine, and Helen and William fit with the regular naming pattern. Plus the fact that they are neighbours gives strong evidence that these are her parents. Have you checked the death entries for Helen Rome and William Nicholson to see if Janet or David registered them?

Thanks, I had found the same information, and did conclude i was on the right track, but then you can never be too sure can you, finding their deaths is my next port of call, i am hoping it will give me some slight information to help me, do all deaths even before 1855 list place of birth and parents for a deceased person?
