Hi Carolyn
That is all great info - hopefully I will get to visit the church and graves etc eventually. My email is :
sandalwalshATbigpond.com
That would be just wonderful if you can send some photos - thanks so much for your effort and please thank your friend for me also. I have just signed up to change from WiFi to Wireless and will have a new email address when that gets changed over, but they do assure me that the old address will still work - however just to be sure I will send you the new address when it is all up and running.
Regards
Sandra
Ps Have been experimenting with the maps and have managed to print them out and also directions etc so that was good.

Hi Sandra

Checked the marriage certificate but there are no Milnes on it sadly. Mind you it was a long shot as you've found that your people were buried in a Church of Scotland graveyard. The participants and witnesses on the certificate were Quakers.

Funnily enough a colleague of mine discovered that she was related to the bride and groom.

Thanks for checking that out Anne. What luck that they were related to your colleague! How's the weather there at the moment - we're planning to be there in your winter so I'm interested to see how it is - our winter here is usually approx 19degreesC during the day so I'm a bit worried.
Regards
Sandra

Hi again Sandra,

At the moment here it's around 12 degrees but that's not normal. We've had a real mixed bag this year including snow in November and a lot of frost recently. A couple of days it did not rise above freezing all day and just last week as I was driving to Fraserburgh my car ended up facing back towards Inverurie without my wishing it!! Having said that when it's cold and frosty the scenery here is lovely, all clear light and muted pastel colours, even in the cold it's hard to beat.

Hello Sandra,

Why worry, with global warming there probably won’t be any snow there next year.

Try finding the web site of a radio station or whatever that has the weather for the area and you can keep tabs on what is happening during the part of the year you’ll be there. One of the locals should be able to advise you. Listen to the local news, get a feel of the place, and practice understanding the local accents. Maybe even a local webcam.

All the best,
Alan

sandal, as far as weather goes you can expect anything!

Just come prepared - or wait until you are here and buy some warm things, jacket hat scarf & gloves and a good pair of boots.
One point to remember though, is that we heat our houses here, and they are often warm, so bear that in mind our Australian friends are often surprised at how warm inside is!

Hi Alan and Wilma
Thanks for the good advice guys. Re global warming Alan - that would certainly fix things - no worries then! On second thoughts though - snow cap might melt and flood us so best pass on that one.
take care
Sandra

No point in worrying about the weather really. It's usually fine and normally dry. As Wilma says the houses are warm inside.. lots of wood burning stoves and open fires which give a nice heat. Sure your driving is much better than mine anyway.

If you are up this way do get in touch.
