I found an entry in the IGI for a Penelope Clarihue who married James Dickie Oct. 3, 1807 in Old Machar and then she vanished. I've tried wildcards and the Dickies and can't find another trace of her. She may not be a direct relation but finding a Penelope after 23 and counting Isabellas is such a relief that I'd like to know more about her.
Any ideas as to a nickname other than Penny for Penelope?
Also: In the 1851 Census--Occupation--Domestic Dukes. This was for a single woman. Precursor to the Friday night fights?

Hi all,
Yes, it's Ancestry again. I got a chuckle out of it. Duties would make sense, but I've never seen it listed that way. Usually, it's domestic servant or female servant.
There are a couple of Nellies in the Clerihew mess, but from closer to the 1900's and no Nells that I've seen. You would think that a name like Penelope would leap out at you, but I can't find a Penelope Dickie either. However, it's early in the hunt. It took me seven months to find my 2x great grandmother Janet Milne!

Thanks Currie,
No luck with any nicknames so far. I love Mirror. It's my brother all over!
I did find the marriage certificate for Penelope and James Dickie, but it wasn't helpful. Just said the usual these two people delcared their intentions and were married.
Two possibilities: One is that Penelope died soon after they were married. The other is that Penelope really didn't like her name and changed it to something else. Happened more than a few times.
