german hospital ww1
A solider I am researching was injured at passchendele. He lay for 2 days on the field and was picked up and nursed in a German hospital. How could I find out more about this? Where was the hospital, etc . Does anyone know of records of soldiers treated by the Germans? He has a very common name so I haven't been able to find his pension records yet.

Hi Fidget,
Sorry I can't help with your query but thought I'd bring it up front again for those who may have missed it first time around. Also, you might try posting on this site http://1914-1918.invisionzone.com/forums/

Hello Fidget,
If you wanted to, you could give some detail regarding his name, rank, date and place of birth, which countries army he served with, his unit, where the info about the circumstances of his wounding came from, when he died and where, if he married etc. In fact, any clues you have that you think might help.
German records of treatment of enemy combatants in the sort of turmoil that would have existed behind the lines during and after major battles would likely be very hard to find. There is always the chance that there was something about this, a debriefing or whatever, which ended up on his Service Records, Pension Records or elsewhere.
There could be something buried somewhere on the Internet regarding someone else’s research into this individual. Even if you can’t find anything specific there is probably something there about another individual, caught up in similar circumstances, which would give you an idea of what things would have been like.
Before you do any of the above have a look at an excellent step by step guide to research at http://www.1914-1918.net/grandad/grandad.htm especially the parts regarding Prisoners of War.
Or you could go to Google Advanced Search and search a domain such as http://1914-1918.invisionzone.com for a phrase such as “German hospital” or “German field hospital” or anything else that comes to mind.
Hope this helps,
Alan
