Trying to find the birth records/parent of William Ferguson of Paisley, we have deduced a birthdate of abt 1787 from the 1851 Census when he was living at #2 Ferguslie and we know he had died by the 1861 Census, he married Janet Lyle at High Church, paisley in 1808 and his children born from 1823 to 1830 birth records family was living in Ferguslies. William was a hand loom weaver, cotton, we find no verifiable reference to this family in the 1841 census. His son William born 1819, died in 1860 in the lunatic asylum and is buried in Abbey Churchyard they are my great great great grand father and great great grandfather respectively.
Happy to share any info I have as well.

Thanks for the tip but I use Soctland Peoples regularly, My great great grandfather is listed in the SRI Death records, that's how we know his Father William was deceased as of 1860, as he was alive in 1851, we can only assume he died prior to the statuatory registrations beginning. Thanks for trying.

Hi Rob
The Paisley Cemetery is only a half mile from Ferguslie and is the main burial ground for the area.
I have been scrabbling arouind looking for my address for it and can't lay hands (The electronic variety) on it since I changed over to my laptop.
The staff there are very helpful. They have the original records going quite far back and were able to show me the ledger entry for a Poorhouse burial I was searching for.
If you wrote to the
Admin Office,
Paisley Cemetery and Crematorium
Paisley
Renfrewshire.
they would probably be able to do a search for you.
I would ask first whether there is a charge for this since some burial grounds are now charging but there was no charge only a few months ago.
If you have no joy get back to me and I can call in, in person to see what they can find. You could e-mail me as I have a photgraph of the cemetery which I'll send.

Thanks Russell, I'll try that mailing address. By the way, I noticed you have Lyle in the list of families you are researching, I also have a Lyle in my ancestry.

Hi Rob
My Lyle - or rather, my wife's is Martha Lyle b c 1827 in Paisley d 4 April 1883 in Hutchesontown, Glasgow.
She married James Johnston on Sept 9 1850 in Abbey -which was probably Ferguslie as it was still separate from Paisley burgh at that time.
James was a shoemaker.
Their children were:
James b 1850 in Paisley
Elizabeth b 1853 Paisley
Robert John b 1856
David Lyle b 1858. Now in Glasgow
Wiliam 1b 861
Thomas b 1864
Martha Lyle b 1866.
There were lots of Lyle families in the Paisley area and more just outside in Kilbarchan.
We couldn't take our family any further back than Martha's parents John Lyle and Martha. So far we have found no records for them at all. Most frustrating !
I'll keep my fingers crossed that your Lyles and mine crossed paths somewhere.

Hi Russell,
We are having similar problems with our Lyles, my GGGgrandfather William Ferguson married a Janet Lyle in 1808 at High Church, Paisley, once we got stopped on finding his parents, we started looking for hers...we know there last child son John was born in 1830 and by the 1851 census my grandfather is listed as widowed. We have been trying to use the childrens names to trace back but can't verify that as yet. We are reasonable that our Janet's father was a James Lyle, right now I am leaning towards Her parents being James Lyle and Janet Crawford, with our Janet being born in Paisley Low (Burgh) Oct 2 1785, we are still trying to verify...I'll let you know if we come up with anything further.
