I was always under the impression that James Wight (as he was christened) was Scottish however I was watching a programme at the weekend (might have been Countryfile?) which said he had lived in the house he practised all his life? So I looked at Wikipidia and lo and behold his parents were from Sunderland, howver they lived in Glasgow and his mother went back to Sunderland for Alf to be born returning to Glasgow three weeks later, Alf (James) went to Yoker primary and then on to Glasgow yooni to become a vet.

You learn something new everyday?

Hi Andrew,
I had read all The Vet books as a child and enjoyed the series as well when it came to us across the big pond. You know what else is fun. Looking up the families on Ancestry. Seigfried ( who was really J. Donald Sinclair) was really interesting. You can find more on James Herriot and his life on this site...

I guess that just another sign of my growing genealogy addiction. I've started looking up the trees of interesting characters who have no connection to me what so ever. VBG
