Hi Tracey:

I found many hymn sites, but couldn't locate this title.

Many hymnals have an index of 'First lines' so you may have better luck in a 'real' library, if someone here can't come up with it.

You may want to focus too, on the specific Church where it would have been sung, as cross-over hymns are relatively new in the history of Churches.

Hi Tracey
I tried entering slight variations into Google and "O God of battle" got results that may be what you are looking for.

Hello Tracey,

If you try a Google Book search nothing much comes up for “God of battles unto” but if you search for “God of battles””thee” and select Full View you’ll find somewhere worth looking.

One in particular “A Selection of Psalms and Hymns, for Public Worship (1829) - Page 11, Titled ‘Psalm 20’, has for the 4th verse as below. Could this be the one you're looking for?
http://www.google.com.au/books?id=FgcPA ... 1#PPA11,M1

The God of battles Thee we own:
The victory, Lord, is thine alone:
To Thee our grateful hearts we raise,
And own thy hand, and sing thy praise.

Hope this helps,
Alan

Thank you for all your replies and suggestions. I will receive a copy of it next week and will let you know if any of the links lead to the right hymn.

Many thanks
