John Ogg.....

Post by SGEOJMP » Sun Jun 19, 2005 7:41 pm

I am looking for a date of death for John Ogg who married Ann Adams in Boyndie, Banffshire, Scotland in 1860. His father was Alexander Ogg and his Mother Elizabeth Leggatt (deceased) as recorded on the marriage certificate. For over 40 years I have searched high and low for his date and place of birth also his date and place of death. Should anyone have any information I would be so appreciative.

Stuart

Hi Stuart and Welcome!!

I think these may be your Ogg family in the 1881 census:

Dwelling: Workmens House Of Rait
Census Place: Nairn, Nairn, Scotland
Source: FHL Film 0203430 GRO Ref Volume 123 EnumDist 14 Page 4
Marr Age Sex Birthplace
John OGG M 38 M King Edward, Aberdeen, Scotland
Rel: Head
Occ: Ag Labourer
Ann OGG M 38 F Nairn, Nairn, Scotland
Rel: Wife
John OGG 11 M Dufftown, Banff, Scotland
Rel: Son
Occ: Scholar
Robert OGG 9 M Dufftown, Banff, Scotland
Rel: Son
Occ: Scholar
George OGG 7 M Dufftown, Banff, Scotland
Rel: Son
Occ: Scholar
Alexander OGG 6 M Dufftown, Banff, Scotland
Rel: Son
Occ: Scholar
Mary OGG 2 F Cawdor, Nairn, Scotland
Rel: Daur
Hellen OGG 1 F Cawdor, Nairn, Scotland
Rel: Daur

Based on the results of the IGI parent search for John and Ann the recorded offspring appear to be:

1. MARGARET OGG - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Birth: 19 AUG 1860 Banff, Banff, Scotland

2. ISABELLA OGG - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Birth: 09 JUN 1864 Mortlach, Banff, Scotland

3. GEORGE OGG - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Birth: 22 FEB 1873 Mortlach, Banff, Scotland

4. JOHN OGG - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Birth: 31 JAN 1869 Mortlach, Banff, Scotland

5. JAMESINA OGG - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Birth: 03 JUN 1867 Mortlach, Banff, Scotland

6. ANN OGG - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Birth: 06 MAR 1862 Mortlach, Banff, Scotland

7. ROBERT OGG - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Birth: 10 NOV 1870 Mortlach, Banff, Scotland

I haven't accounted for the whereabouts yet of all these children but perhaps not all survived to the 1881 census. Taking the birthplace listed for John Sr. into account and the results of an IGI parent search on Alexander Ogg and Elizabeth Leggatt which shows:

1. JAMES OGG - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Birth: 29 DEC 1835 King Edward, Aberdeen, Scotland

2. ROBERT OGG - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Birth: 14 OCT 1829 King Edward, Aberdeen, Scotland

It sure looks likely that this is the right John and that he likely was born in King Edward, Aberdeen.

Unfortunately have found no likely birth record yet and haven't searched for a death.....but would focus on the years after 1881 maybe in Nairn.

Is this any help?

Best wishes
Jean

Hi again Stuart

Not sure if this helps or not but had just enough credits left to be dangerous and they expired in less than an hour so looked In Nairn and went up the wrong tree....then looked for the death of Ann* Adam* Ogg and found one:

1 1922 OGG ANNIE ADAMS F 85 URQUHART AND LOGIE WESTER ROSS AND CROMARTY 084/00 0005

Can this be yours?....and if so.....

can this be your John?

1 1913 OGG JOHN M 69 URQUHART AND LOGIE WESTER ROSS AND CROMARTY 084/00 0013

I haven't viewed them as am now creditless and penniless.....
If nothing else I may have eliminated a couple options for you
Hoping for the best!
Jean

John Ogg

Post by SGEOJMP » Tue Jan 03, 2006 11:19 pm

Dear Jean,
Please accept my apologies. I thought this site had closed down. I was doingh a general Google search for John Ogg and found the Talking Scot site and was delighted to see that you had posted a reply. Many years ago I had seen this entry in the register of deaths but did not associate the geography. However I have smartened up and just been into Scotlands people and obtained the images of the certificates and believe thanks to you that I am on a winner. I always suspected that John's father remarried as John's marriage certificate shows his Mother as deceased. I also have a cousin who recollects a small farm in Conan Bridge where a Mackenzie resides. Could this be a relation? I will be motivated to do more research. Thank you.

Stuart Ogg
