Was looking at the marriage record for my Granny's eldest brother and can read all 'cept for what it reads just before Private:

Is the no. 7040 a rather low #? I guess I'd thought he would have a much higher Service #.

Hi Dennis,
I think that his service number may have the one before they were renumbered. I'm researching someone in the Gordon Highlanders whose original number was 3353. After renumbering it was 200950.
