Ronald McDonald

Post by bleckie » Mon Dec 03, 2007 2:08 pm

Good Afternoon All

I have posted this one before but I am hoping that maybe someone can help me passed a brick wall.

I am looking for the parents of one Ronald McDonald he was married to a Elizabeth McNaughton.

Ronald died sometime between 1841 and 1851.
I have him as an army pensioner on the 1841 census in Comrie Perthshire.

I have applied to Kew for Army Records there are 4 possibilities but I cannot positivley identify which one. I have no idea where ronald was born, but on later census records his sons are listed as speaking both English and gaelic

His widow is listed as a lodger in Comrie on the 1851 census Occupation Widow.

Elizabeth McNaughton died January 1864.

many thanks in anticipation

Brucel

Hi Bruce,
You know from the 1841 his approximate age and that he was born in Perthshire. Does that help to eliminate any of the four? What information do you have for the four choices? Or is it only a name...
Regards,
Sarah

Hi sarah

His age was given as 56 years old on the 1841 census the records for the 4 ronald mcdonald's I received from Kew put all 4 in the time frame!

One I have ruled out as he went To Ireland, I have one Ronald McDonald born Comrie 1777 his name is written in a page of Commrie's OPR's no parents listed.

you can see my predicament

yours aye

:-k Hmmm. It looks like none of them is yours, then :( That is, assuming the 1841 census is right about his birthplace... But surely, a Chelsea Pensioner should have some records? #-o

Sarah

Hi Bruce,

I have been searching like you for some old soldiers and have the same problem, today, I think I have found my Duncan Bain at the archives, there was a Ronald Mcdonald on the same page, discharged at age 59 in 1813, and was born in Kilmore Inverness, served from 1776-1813. I know this is not your man but, the name Ronald McDonald, sounds very highland to me, and with his sons speaking Gaelic makes you wonder if his parents might have been from this area.

I found my gtgtgrandfather's father was actually from Inverness, but moved around with the Army, the children were then born in different places, just a thought.

I didn't see this later edit yesterday... Now I'm confused. So you did find an actual OPR page with the birth of a Ronald McDonald born Comrie 1777? Or was this an IGI submission? If it was an actual record, it does fit exactly with when and where he was likely to have been born. Too bad no parents are listed.

Or was the one born in Comrie one of the records at Kew? I suppose not, or you would have no question about it...

Still sounds as though none of the records you found is the correct one-- unless Ronald was born elsewhere, then came to Comrie with his family shortly after birth and was christened there... :?:

All the best,
Sarah

Hi Sarah

This one was actually writen acrross the page of the OPR I found it in Perth Library. it fits with everything else I have.
The fact that his wife was born in Commrie He lived at Mailermore in the 1841 census which is just outside Commrie. His offspring all lived in and around Muthil so I just Assumed this is him! I know the age range is a bit off.
