William Bell Parker - looking for a bit of help
Hello everyone,
Looking for a wee bit of help please.
I’m trying to trace a line and finding them is proving quite difficult, here is what I have so far:-
Margaret Parker Born 04.07.1920 – Died 29.03.1956
Parents were (1) William Bell Parker B 03.05.1892 (Blackfriers, Glasgow) – D 17.04.1930 and Mary Carberry B 26.04.1891 – D 20.03.1946 married 29.03.12 in Glasgow
William’s parents were (2) William Bell Parker B abt 1864/1865 – D 21.06.1927 (Glasgow) and Ann McBride B 24.02.1868 – D 15.07.1949
(2) William Bell Parker’s parents were John Parker and Margaret Bell details unknown but I think they were alive in 1886 as they are not listed as deceased when young William
got married.
(2)William Bell Parker had another son John (no details yet) and a daughter Christina Brown Parker B 20.12.1901 at 4 Broomloan Road, Govan, Glasgow
So I have been trying to trace (2) William Bell Parker through birth death and Marriage but can’t get any details for him at all.
I then tried to look for the birth of (1) William Bell Parker but can’t find that either.
I then tried to look for (2) William Bell Parker in the 1891 census but I can’t seem to track him down there.
I then tried to track (1) William Bell Parker through the 1901 census but again could not really get a hold of him.
I was then looking at the birth of Christina Brown Parker B 20.12.1901 at 4 Broomloan Road, Govan, Glasgow so I looked at the census for that house in 1901. Unfortunately she or William Bell Parker etc are not there but there is a family headed by Archibald Parker 36 years and his wife Annie 33 years and there squad if kids. Now I know you should not assume anything but it is a bit of a coincidence. Archibald is down as being born in England which would maybe tie into why I can’t find the birth/death/marriage of John Parker and Margaret Bell.
Any help would be much appreciated

Hi Andrew,
Unfortunately not, according to William's marriage to Annie McBride in 1886 his parents were John Parker (occ Gardner) and Margaret Bell. I also have Williams death cert from 1927 which also confirms these two names.
Cheers

Hello Stuart,
On FreeBMD http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl there’s a marriage of a John Parker as follows. Two marriages on the page and one of the two possible spouses is a Margaret Ann Bell. Not particularly helpful names for a census check to sort out the couples.
Marriages Mar 1863, Liverpool 8b 81
BELL Margaret Ann
GARDNER Fredrick
PARKER John
ROBERTS Sarah
(Liverpool is an alternative name for Liverpool and it is in the county of Lancashire)
Could this marriage be Archibald’s, he would be young but do the kids fit?
Marriages Jun 1887, Bolton 8c 453
Parker Archibald
Parkes Archibald
SCOTT Annie
YEARSLEY Alice
(Bolton spans the boundaries of the counties of Greater Manchester and Lancashire)
Closest fit to Archibald’s age in 1881 England census is probably this one but does the occupation fit? http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/ ... census.asp
Household:
Name Relation Marital Status Gender Age Birthplace Occupation
Helen PARKER Head W Female 47 Ireland Lodging House Keeper
Euphemia PARKER Daur U Female 24 Manch, Lancashire, England
Ada Francis PARKER Daur U Female 21 Lpool, Lancashire, England
Archibald P. PARKER Son U Male 17 Lpool, Lancashire, England Commercial Clerk (General Shipping)
Mabel PARKER Daur Female 15 Lpool, Lancashire, England
Sarah STONE Serv Female 24 Buxton, Derby, England General (Domestic)
Source Information:
Dwelling 13 Broadwalk
Census Place Buxton, Derby, England
Family History Library Film 1341826
Public Records Office Reference RG11
Piece / Folio 3454 / 60

Just scratching around here but there could be some connection to Liverpool or at least Lancashire.

Jessie (Forgie) doesn't appear to be William's mother so perhaps Margaret Bell died and John re-married, and the reason you can't find William's birth is because he was born in England.
Just thought I'd add some confusion.
Regards,
Annette M
Later...............Just noticed Margaret Bell was not deceased when William married but I still think this family is worth considering.

Hi Annette, Just an update
Thanks for this, I've been doing some detective work today trying to prove some of your idea's.
I've got/ and had the 1881 census for this family back in 2005 but discounted it because he was born in England...hadn't found the Christina yet giving the Broomloan road address then Archibald born England etc at that time.
The daughter called Jessie F Parker would probably only be Jessie Parker's (Forgie) as she was born before they were married abt 1868/69 according to her census age, not found her birth cert yet to prove this. What I'm stuggling with now is 1868/69 Jessie has a daughter, then in 1870 is in Birkinhead getting married, then back in Glasgow 1871 to have John. I have traced the family in 1891 and they are all together apart from William Bell Parker who has since married but is ellusive. The mother Jessie died in 1907 aged 67 with the son Andrew registering the death. Not got John's death yet but looks like it's after 1907.
Cheers

Hi all,
Just a note of thanks to all those for helping me out on this one especially John McCurdie for doing a fair bit for me. It turns out William was born in England along with a brother called George to John Parker and Margaret Ann Bell. Margaret seems to have died and John remarried Jessie Forgie, both marriages in Birkinhead, Liverpool then John and Jessie move to Glasgow and start having kids. John the father seems to have been born in Wales. I've since got alot of births and deaths of all the children, just a few left to do and the last search for the death of John Parker after 1907. I'm ordering up the English certs to confirm these so look forward to them coming. He and Jessie seem to have had a wee falling oot and are living separately in the 1901 census. He's 68 at this point so not wishing any ill health on him I hope to find him soon. Jessie died in 1907 and it says married to John so I'm going with the assumption he is still living although if they separated he may have croaked it.
Thanks again all
